pvd coating information

a member from this board had a lot of questions about my new PVD PAM111.

so i thought i give my answers in this thread, for more information about PVD-Coating.

i'm not a dealer, i'm a private person and this kind of work with pams is my passion.

my friend, a really good watchmaker-master, i've got from him a lot of experiences.

so i wanted to start a pvd project with a pam111.

i was searching for a pvd-coating company. the most companies makes

pvd-coatings for metallize of tools. some makes that for industry-products.

like doorhandles, car-parts, reflectors, halogen-reflectors, etc.

you have to know pvd is not black. pvd is a kind of synthetic-material and transparent. this transparent-material gets with add-on of color-material the different pvd-coatings-color. black, dark-black, silver, gold, red, blue, etc.

is the object polished -- after pvd-coating the surface is polished.

is the object brushed -- after pvd-coating the surface is brushed.

the pam111 got for the surface the bead-blasting.

so, the bead-blusting ( regular is glass-ceramic bead ) is one of the surface-work.

jewellery and glasses-frames with black pvd-coating that makes special companies. most in swisserland. i had luck. in my location there is one company,

they make pvd-coating with different bead-blasting structures for jewellery and glasses-frames.

one person checked for me the mix of the glass-ceramic-bead with a share of corundum. the mix is 70-75% glass-ceramic-bead and 25-30% corundum.

thats why the surface of the watch looks like the gen pam.

the procedure of pvd-coating is in a high-vacuum machine with 60-300 degrees temperature with a ionic-process.

so, each gasket would burn.

important is that the watch-case are in separates.

first take out the front-glass with gasket. then the bezel.

between the bezel and the case is a teflon-gasket, in the crown is a gasket-o-ring and in the case-tube is a gesket-o-ring, and in the case is a gesket for the case-back.

crown without stem ( the stem is screwed in the crown ).

the crown-guard has a link for the lever, and in this link is a plastic tube with a pin.

important: no bead-blasting in the screw-jack holes and bezel-case-edge and case inside. ( caseback without pvd-coating ).

why no bead-blasting: otherwise no waterresistent.

maybe i could help for a better pvd understanding.

ps: from palp comes the new thicker crown.

hi finepics,

it gives only one way to make a good perfect pvd-coating like the gen.

important is the mix of glass-ceramic-corundum bead.

with the mix-ratio you have a slightly influence on the pvd color structure.

i know the right making of the pvd procedure.

trust me.

Rolli - nothing wrong at all with yours - just pokin a bit of fun at you!! Actuallly mine were just blasted with bead only. The 009 looks darker because of the lighting in the photo. The 028 photo is pretty accurate colour wise and all you readers will be able to see the slightly purple hue that is talked about with TiALN PVD.

Hi Rolli,

Could you set up the project to offer the PVD case just like Palp offer the crown. It would benefit all of us. I think I don't see any PVD as good as yours.

Must be blind!! It's not something that can be offered in advance with a ready to go case as the cost of buying in the cases is too expensive to hold a stock that might not get sold. This is why I offer this as a custom service for people that already have a watch that they want coating.

thanks for your question and warm words.

please wait a little bit, circa 2-3 weeks, than is this pvd model completed with a thicker crown-guard

and palp crown. then the result in pictures.

cheers
