Mickey Padge Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Hello peeps! I need some advice please, I hope you guys can help! Does anybody know where to get a set of hands for an old school 2893 based PAM GMT 029? I have my watch with Domi in Germany, and something has gone wrong with the hands black coating! (see picture below) The hands are superlumed, do you think the effected area could be re-painted, or would it be easier to find replacement hands? Any input and/or advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!
HauteHippie Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 I'm apparently not seeing what the problem is... Call me crazy.
Mickey Padge Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 I'm apparently not seeing what the problem is... Call me crazy. Check the circled area, the black finish is missing, leaving a rusty finish. Maybe it can be carefully fixed with matte finish, black enamel paint? Smooth the effected area down lightly first, then apply paint?
dluddy Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Hmmm, I'm not seeing it either which begs the question.... Just leave it as is
Mickey Padge Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 Hehe, well Domi, and I can see it! Domi took this picture for me to see Just check the colour of the hands at the centre of the picture, within the red circle....
HauteHippie Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 I see it now... Thanks for adding the red circle. I'd say paint it matte black. It appears to be a small, somewhat hidden area of the bottom hand that isn't very visible anyhow. Alternatively, I would suspect DSN has replacement hands for sale.

I wonder if the hand size will be an issue with the ETA2893, as DSN uses modified 7750's for his watches? I think a delicate re-paint may be the answer, just need to blend in with the hands colour

But DSN does have 2893 hands. He sells 2893 watches.
Mickey Padge Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 Interesting idea, although I am totality unsure of the process, would it not damage the hands? I think paint may be the answer, I have sent DSN an email too, just in case.... The paint shouldn't be a problem. Anyone who can do good lume jobs could competently paint the hands. Not really, you just clean them with a little dish soap and toss them in for a few moments, pull them out, rinse with water, coat with oil over night (to cure) and clean them up come morning. Going to come down to what material the hands are made from.
Mickey Padge Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 That would effect the lume too yes, the hands would need re-luming? I think painting is safer
dluddy Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 I see it now, it looks like the circle at the end of the GMT hand. DSN has Hand sets for 2893's because I have a set here ready to go into my 029 when I get my 2893 from Andy's group buy.
Bike Mike Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 That would effect the lume too yes, the hands would need re-luming? I think painting is safer You can locally apply the solution with a cotton swab so it will not even touch your lume.

Mickey Padge Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 You can locally apply the solution with a cotton swab so it will not even touch your lume. Not sure how to explain the process to Domi though, I do not know Italian or German!
Bike Mike Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Not sure how to explain the process to Domi though, I do not know Italian or German! I think the gun bluing process is etched into our German DNA, so we are born knowing how to do it.
Mickey Padge Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 Maybe if Domi reads this thread he will understand what you mean!
HauteHippie Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 I think asking Domi to do the paint job first is the best thing to do. If that doesn't turn out well, you can get a set of hands from DSN as a fall back.
