HauteHippie
Lots of good points being brought up here. $1000 gold rotors without exchange! LOL!!! How often is a rotor change really, truly even necessary??! But, anyhow, I do feel compelled to remind us all that this thread would just not be complete if someone didn't throw in a quick and accurate ad hominem by pointing out that Bob Frei is a deranged buffoon who doesn't give one rat's ass about "jobs and income lost at every level of the industry." Bob Frei cares about Bob Frei. Period. And if he has been pushed out of the "elite group" that is still able to source particular parts, it absolutely shouldn't surprise a soul. In the end, no company is under any obligation to sell anything to anyone. And Bob himself even turns away customers for puerile reasons such as not following his required email protocol, etc, etc. Karma is a real [censored] sometimes. And so be it. TeeJay
Once the reppers figure out how to match the fit-&-finish of a gen for $300, then it becomes a bit of a joke to spend $5,000 for the gen. But, as long as there is something qualitatively better about the gen versus its rep, we are not quite there yet. With regards the watch-world, I quite agree with you To be honest, I think given the 'generic options' available in stores, consumerism and 'brand-name worship' could soon be an outdated concept. Of course, as long as someone can afford to buy a product, there will always be the argument that something has a value as long as people are prepared to pay for it. If someone can afford the brand-name, then there's often going to be little reason for that person to 'go generic', however, for those who can't make that expensive payment, and have to go for the generic option, it soon becomes clear to them that the generic product is often just as good as the branded
