Cambronne Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 I would like to know if any dealer sold reps with moissanite fake diamonds . I read on this forum that those were even better imitators than cubic zircons (Cz's), but that reps usually display the latter ones. Thanks
tonton2000 Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 They are much better than CZ's, but much more expensive. They show up as 'diamond' on most of the pen style thermal diamond testers.
rocket754 Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 They are very good imitation diamonds but as already stated they are pricey. Cheaper than a real diamond but if you in the market for a fake one then Iam sure you wanting to keep your costs down.
GhostfaceZX Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 The only good thing about moissanite is that it tests positive as a diamond, but color-wise, CZ is much better (equivalent to a D color diamond). For a watch, I'd much rather have CZ than moissanite unless you're trying to impress a friend with a diamond tester. There are also different qualities in the cut of CZ, so you may get CZ that looks like crap, but if it's cut right, it looks great.
dec Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 If I'm not mistaken moissanite needs to be prong-set for the best effect. Unless light can get in from the side I read somewhere it has significantly less 'fire' than equivalent diamond. Therefore works best in an engagement ring, not sure how it would go down in a bezel setting or similar...
Cambronne Posted October 29, 2006 Author Report Posted October 29, 2006 thanks very much for the replies and precisions. It seems opinions diverge on this subject. I guess all of our dealers use Cz's then?
Linder Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Yes, for small protected stones, CZs are best. However, in a ring, moissanite is wonderful as it is much harder than CZ.
