Boogaloo
Hi all, Just after some help but if this is in the wrong area then please feel to move/delete the thread I've got a PAM233 rep (pic below) with a broken face. I'm after some guidance where I can get a new AR crystal replacement and some idea of how easy/difficult it is to replace? Are there any special tools I would need? Thanks in advance for looking and if anyone can help then I'll be very grateful!
poretl
When did you get it from?
Boogaloo
Hi Poretl, I bought it from Time4direct in June 2009. I've emailed them but thought no harm in asking here as well Edited January 12, 2012 by Boogaloo
poretl
some of the trusted dealres seem to have it on their websites: http://www.yourtrustytime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=37_51&products_id=3431&zenid=428dba27a420db82ef155241bacf417a http://www.puretimewatch.com/product/pam233-pvd-lite/ http://www.1-pc8838.com/pn23301-days-ssru-black-asian-p-5206.html http://www.kuvarsitwatch.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=31076 You may want to drop them an email asking them if they can get parts. They may not even have the watch. Who knows. By the way, how do you like the watch? This is probably (I mean the gen one) one of the best Pan watches. It's just awesome. You know who wears it? http://rolexblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/panerai-coolness-gavin-newsom-mayor-of.html I mean as a rep, how's the quality? Does the power reserve work? RWG Technical
Having had to remove broken crystals a number of times, I can tell by looking at this one that your going to have a lot of problems getting the broken crystal out from the case. My suggestion, save yourself a lot of problems, and maybe some really bad cuts and glass in your hands, throw out the watch, it's not worth the risk. poretl
You may need to buy a new one but I didn't see them put a lot of effort replicating this watch. Probably because you can't fake the movement and the p resrve. But I like the watch. The next best thing to this one is the 320 in my opinion http://www.1-pc8838.com/pn320l01-320l-1950-days-ssle-asian-7750-p-10133.html But this one you can spot immediately once you turn it over. The power reserve is on the back. Anyone can tell. But it's not like the others you can't tell if yuo are experienced. But the everything else on the 320 besides the mvt is very good. Boogaloo
Great stuff, thank you The glass broke about a year ago and I haven't worn it since. I'm moving house this weekend though, came across it in a drawer whilst packing and thought I'd like to get it fixed - I used to love the look and weight of it! Interesting to see that Gavin Newsom has taste and has copied me... This is my first rep and I've never owned a gen (couldn't really afford it and doubt I would be comfortable wearing that much money on my wrist if I could) so haven't got a comparison but I was happy with the quality - it worked with no problems (until I brutalised the glass), the lume was bright, comparing it to pictures it looks like an accurate enough copy... The power reserve sort of worked - the indicator moved about halfway and was good for about 48 hours but not correct obviously. I'm wondering whether it would be easier/cheaper to go for a homage instead of repairing it but I'll get in touch with those sellers to see what they can do, thanks again
poretl
the strap looks bad. If the watch is good enough to justify it you could go for the real strap. About $160 you can get one. The tunnel strap is perfect for this watch. Somewhere between a shiny leather and a sporty rubder strap which is in accordance with the brushed case and polished bezel. Good luck with fixing it/getting a new one. It would be nice if there was a V2. V3 etc so you could call it an upgrade, not just a replacement or my broken watch. Boogaloo
Quick replies here, sorry I type slowly Thanks for your opinion Zigmeister - the largest piece of glass is completely detached but I can see what you mean with the rest of it. Lots of bits have fallen onto the dial and I would guess some in the movement as well. I'm tempted to just agree that it should go in the bin but seems a bit of a shame... I'm not too concerned about it being an obvious fake to someone who knows anything about them - I just like the look and feel of them. Hence also why the homage route is appealing, I was looking this Getat one but need to do some looking around if I'm going in that direction. Appreciate all the quick replies
lfovco
Whatever you get make sure you don't get a model with synthetic sapphire crystal like your watch was. And that GMT listed above has a synthetic one, the scratch very easily and are easy to break. Dealers list in their specs if synthetic or real sapphire is being used. Your best bet is to really spend a bit more then the Getat one you are looking at and get something that's actually quite well made and that will last you for a long time. If you like classic, historic Panerai look then check this model out: http://www.puretimewatch.com/product/pam005-m-noob-best-edition-on-black-leather-strap/ It does not get much better then that today. If you still want a GMT then currently PAM029 is a best GMT to get - http://www.puretimewatch.com/product/bez-pam029-m-n-maker-transparent-ar-best-edition-on-black-croco-leather-strap-updated/ And if you like the 1950 style case then check this one out: http://www.puretimewatch.com/product/pam312-l-best-edition-v2/ There are of course quite few other nice choices, spend time around the forum and do research, this is a great community with very cool and knowledgeable group of people.
