I want to start experimenting on an old watch or two that I have sitting around gathering dust. What tools would you recommend someone pick up that wants to do some work to their watches? I don't plan on waterproofing or regulating right now, just get in there and mess around a bit. Maybe change a crown, try to re-lume, etc. What is needed to pop off the back, take off the hands, change a dial, etc. What accessories are recommended (gloves, mat, etc.)? Any good books? OiRogers Posted November 2, 2006 Report Share Posted November 2, 2006 That kit you have linked has most of the basics.... to hit a re-lume your going to need a hand-remover. Also would heavily recommend a covered parts dish to keep things organized and clean... Check out birdman and also ofrei.com for other sources of tools... I'm thinking about taking the watch school courses over at TZ myself... there are a few books available on amazon, but I haven't done anything further than look at them online... Perhaps The Zigmeister, RBJ or someone else could put up a list of basic tools necessary?... The TZ level one and two tool kit are prolly the way I'll go... a bit more 'spensive but what the heck.
