Still investigating how, what and who. The good news is that I now have full access to the server and have managed to take a complete up-to-date backup, so we've not lost any data. The bad news is that I don't know how long we'll be down for. Currently zeroing in on the nature of the attack - all I'm willing to say is that it wasn't a DDoS attack - actually something rather more subtle. I'm taking the opportunity to do some system maintenance (necessary as the attack could have caused database issues and I need to ensure that it hasn't) whilst also doing a little detective work.
