Dear fellow watch-lovers,

I am on the verge of making a couple of additions to my collection and I have a couple of questions maybe you guys can help with, (I promise to create a thread with pictures when I receive the package in return for your help

)

One of my purchases will be from puretime please see link..

There is a drop-down menu where you can choose movement (a21j or swiss ETA) do any of you guys know whether it is the same watch (case, dial, bracelet etc.) just the movement is different, or - is it a 'worse' watch if you use the 'cheap' version? I am leaning towards the a21j, but do not want it if it is a crappy rep...

Next up is this one.

The classic two-tone datejust, the closest out of the box rep of the classic from the 80's/90's I could find. I have been wanting this watch for a long time, orginally I wanted a franken, but without any luck for months finding one, I have decided to try the one from trusty.

Any experiences with this one?

Next one will be this one.

I know a lot of you do not care much for gold-plated watches, but I am really in love with this model, a friend of my parents has the gen, and it is absolutely stunning. I am not that worried about wear, as it will be in heavy rotation and only worn very occasionally. Personally I have had no problems with gold plated reps, I have a 3 year old TT sub I have used 1,5 years as a daily beater, no problems at all with the gold plating.

Alternatively I have thought about a full gold daytona, as I could fit it with a leather-strap if/when the gold on the bracelet is starting to wear off. What do you think? Wouldn't the GMT look stupid on a leather strap? I would rather not get two full gold watches as it will be worn too rarely, which one will you recommend me?

Daytona would be the one in the link below.

I will buy one or two more reps, I have considered; Alange Söhne dress model, Corum Admirals Cup or maybe joining the AP gang with a ROO from Trusty

Lastly I want to buy a nice brown leather strap for my Panerai 005, and this will then be enough shopping for today I think

OK, I'll bite.

On the first one only the dealer can answer your question. The case, dial, band may be the same or not. None of us here can tell.

The second one has been around a long time and is probably a reasonable choice.

I like gold watches of a certain kind but this third one is just YELLING whether a rep or a gen. Buy and wear it at your own risk. No one here can advise on this kind of taste, at least I don't think so.

I have had a full gold Daytona rep for years. The first thing I did was take off the band and replace it with a dark blue leather strap. Works for me. I have never worn a watch to call attention to myself.

Some here have problem with a leather strap on a dive watch. I don't, and some who can afford the gen have no problem either.

Hi Carl,

Thank you kindly for taking your time to look at it.

I have sent an email to the dealer with the question, guess I hoped that it was common knowledge for regular pure time-customers.

Regarding the second one, seems like my Franken project finally is picking up pace, if not I will order this one. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing your opinion regarding the full gold watch. It is always tricky regarding these I guess. I really like the watch, but leaning towards that TT's instead. I am in a social position like I believe most on this board, by no means rich, but could buy 2-3 of most watches, I also own a few gens already, my problem is that I like a lot of watches and I cannot limit myself to only a few ;)

I could probably afford the gen of the gmt if I found it used and saved up (meaning no reps for a while) ;)

Thanks again Carl, for sharing your thoughts! :)
