William70
Hi, A while back I bought an LV010A for my wife from Andrew. It is now time to change the Battery. - I tried to "un-twist" the 6 screws. However, they were mere decorations. Not real screws - I tried to "Snap-it off" with a Bergeon knife but was not successful - I tried to "Twist" the whole back with a Bergeon suction tool and a Suction Ball and was not successful either. These are the tools I used so far: Any help is appreciated. What tool do I need to open that case to change the battery? Is it a Screw back or a Snap-back? offshore
You say you tried to "untwist" those 6 screws. What happened? Did they just refuse to move, and you started to round out the slots? Or did they unscrew and just spin endlessly? ( And the caseback remained fixed in position) What quality screwdriver did you try to use? offshore
Wow I'm Sorry I didn't read the whole post its most likely a snap back. Try looking for a little gap in-between the case and the back. It's about 2-3mm wide most of the time and place the tool in and POP, or maybe you need to remove the bezel and remove from the front. Don't think its a snap back. And I am almost 100% sure its not a front opener. The screws on these have a history of being extremely soft.. To the point they strip the 1st time they are screwed up. Sometimes the factories will even glue them in.....seriously. So depending on what happened when the attempt was made to unscrew them, we can look to the next step to cure the problem. Offshore I also have a Box of Bergeon 30009 quality screwdrivers and these are the only drivers I use on my watches. When I first attempted to "unscrew" what I thought were "6" screws on the back of this watch. All of them got separated from the case back and turned out to be mere decorations "glued" to the back as you can see: I also do not believe the case is a snap-back. I tried with the knife above many times. I couldn't find the slightest "edge" to tilt up from. What do you think? William
offshore
This is a mystery, isn't it? Have you thought of asking Andrew? My only other guess is that it is a snap back, and you need to attack it from a different angle. Had a look at the other photos on Trusty's site, and I don't honestly think its a front opener. In this photo- you can see, I think, a slot between case back and case body. What I would do is to get an old screwdriver, maybe 1.2 or 1.4 and try to use it like a chisel , tapping it with a hammer, and see if you can get any movement. If you can try go in from an area above the lugs, you will not see any damage you may do, as readily. We do sell a wedge style tool for this purpose- http://watchbitz.com.au/shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=486 Good luck. Offshore.
William70
Thank you Offshore for the hints. It was indeed a SNAP BACK. I checked with Andrew and he confirmed that fact. I finally got it open with the Bergeon knife. I wish I had the "Wedge style case back opener" that you pointed above. It could've saved me some trouble. It will be on next Wachsmith shopping list Happy New Year. William
