Best oil for the need is macadamia oil, but any oil will actually work, provided it is colorless (not to make stitching yellowish) and odourless or having just a light, pleasant smell (not to make your strap smell of line oil for months).

I used a body oil that I got from a local herbalist shop, made from macadamia, almonds and jojoba, and it worked great.

Just be warned that any oil will make your strap a little darker.

Go to Tesco and buy a pot of Lord Sheraton Leather Balsam. It costs about £1.25, I think. I use it on all my straps. It will darken a dry strap and but will only have a very slight effect on the stitching. Here is a before and after shot of a Davidsen strap that was received in very dry condition:

Treating your strap will preserve it, offer a degree of protection from water splashes and make it soft and supple.

Clive told me about the Lord Sheratons balsam cream and that;s what I am using the last 2 years or collecting straps..

My oldest strap is better than ever ;)
