bklm1234 Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 was reading history of Rolex, here're some tidbits about Rolex, pretty impressive: - founded by the German Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis (don't know if he's German though) in England in 1905, Wilsdorf & Davis was the original name - moved out of England in 1912 to Switzerland - Rolex was officially registered as company name in Nov 15, 1915 - innovations - 1st waterproof watch case - 1st wristwatch w/ a date on the dial - 1st watch to show 2 time zones - 1st watchmaker to earn chronometer certification for a wristwatch - holds the record for most certified chronometer movements in wristwatch category - 1st company to create a truly waterproof watch - made a special watch that went as deep as 11,000 meters in the water
