crystalcranium Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Hamilton, Waltham and Elgin vintage PW, all restored and Chronometer certified,..... solid gold PP and GP watches for less than $3000....what the hell am I doing collecting Wristwatches???? These things are beautiful and most dispite their age, because of design and size are chronometer quality. Oh boy, a new obsession. Honey, we need that second mortgage!!!
Corgi Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 I know... I wish our manufacturers could make a few pocket watch reps (Vacheron, Patek, etc) They are lovely pieces to be sure.. especially the complicated ones!!
chris5264 Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 I almost picked up a vintage pocket watch today for around 300 (usd) but then I thought, What would be on my wrist? can you carry a pocket watch and wear one on the wrist at the same time? The vintage pocket watch is very tempting,,,,,,,,,but the wrist might feel strange.......
crystalcranium Posted June 9, 2007 Author Report Posted June 9, 2007 I now have a gorgeous 18 size 1909 Hamilton 992 Railroad watch, restored to chronometer performance. Its a jaw dropper. Engine turning on the case back, blued steel hands, a 21 jewel movement. $300 on the bay and a $325 restoration. It was well worth it.
Leifhaus Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 I have read somewhere that any vintage pocket watch selling for less than $500 probably needs work so factor that in when buying. Yeah it's amazing that some of these watches are very old to boot.
