  1. I sent my UTS off to Germany for repair and the USPS made the same mistake and misread the numbers and sent it to Africa for about two months. But after about three months it ended up in Germany and then eventually back to me.
  2. The usps makes those types of mistakes all the time. As long as there is tracking it will eventually show up. My post office lost a package in their own building and it took them almost two weeks to look around and find it. I think they lose something about 1/5 of the time but eventually it shows up.
  3. This comes up a lot... if you can get the back off, you can try to shoot some air on the balance (not your breath) or you can try to give it a gentle shake, in the right direction it will often work.
  4. Probably can get your money back if you can show it is a rep...
  5. I found a jlc for under 1 USD at similar place, sold it for 300 and it was a fun ride. One of the only times I didn't lose money on a watch.
  6. Off at night but I enjoy the loud clicking of a skeleton unites by the bed..
  7. Rep homage or gen... no question this is a great group of watch freaks.
  8. Yes, I'm a bigger fan of homage rather than reps. IMO homage watches like Steinhart, dievas, prs, mkii, etc are honest fakes rather than reps which just seem to be fake fakes if that makes any sense. I usually hang on to my homage watches but I can't keep a rep more than a month or so, just bugs me.
  9. There were a few marks on the bezel and I thought I could hide them better with per (the spelling will not let me type it). I know this isn't for everyone but I like it. I've done this several times but never at an angle so it was more difficult to get it to look precise. I was thinking of selling it,,, what do you think did I improve it or make certain it will never leave my collection?
  10. Lots of stuff here on how to get off a solid back..should be the only hard part depending on how tight it is.
  11. Is the back off or did the stem just come out?
  12. Pretty much agree with "mini rant." One of the reasons I really do not like selling. On the other hand it does make one appreciate when you do a dealwith someone "old school". I rememember on WUS I picked up a cheap Russian watch. Got it. It didn't work. I wrote a few emails to the seller and toldher it was ok I'll just eat it. She was mad, corrected my grammar and really went at me. She was so mad that I use three periods in a row sometimes, like ...In the end I've been around too long and many supported me and she sort of dug her own hole. But it was a few days of real crap that I just didn't need. There is just a lot of variation out there...That's humanity I guess. I think the trick is keeping ones own standards regardless of some of the people you might deal with from time to time.
  13. now that is an interesting hypothesis....will test it out...really the only thing that makes sense...if it was oil on the keyless works then it shouldn't have worked right when I got it. Nice...even if its wrong it the best guess I've head since I had this issue.
  14. That was my first thought...but here is why I"m so OCD about this. When I first got these reps it worked fine. could set time and push it in for winding without and issue. It was only after I took the stem out and replaced it that it wouldn't fit in the same way as it did before. I even tried replacing it with a longer stem but didn't work because with the crown guard you can only get the stem so long and just didn't look right sitting next to the case.
  15. so just some oil in the right place in the keyless words would probably take care of it?
  16. Thanks rolexman...yes..I've unscrewed it too far enough times...but this is stranger...I'll get a pam rep...works fine..can set the time and then push the crown back into the winding position. Then I'll take it apart and regrease the gaskets but when I put the crown back in and it no longer will change from the time setting to the winding position because the spring in the crown doesn't push hard enough to reset the keyless works. I can only get it to get back to the winding position by using the crown guard. If just happened once I wouldn't think about it but is the case with three pams now.
  17. I've worked on tons of unitas movements. Lately the last few reps all seem to have the same issue. I also take any luminor pam apart when I get it...make sure all the O-rings are greased and then when I put the crown back into the keyless works it always seems very fussy as if the stem isn't long enough. When I try to push it back after setting the time, it will not click back into winding mode unless you slam the crown guard. Is this just from the keyless work not having any oil? is there a trick I"m missing? The stem isn't too short...sure of that..
  18. The second one doesn't seem to be as bad...but the first is terrible.
  19. Nice crown....case back is close to gen.....lol...
  20. Personally I think the best deal on the market is a used UTS...These are every bit as good as a pam and have a great story, design, movt but for some reason go for about 1500 (usd) used. For business might not fit easy under a suit, but I would think the adventure is just enough to get conversations started...at least that's how I put it to a business friend of mine. I've even seen the super custom ones with a Benzinger movt go for around 3.
  21. I can appreciate the way he put it that the parts just fall together in a Rolex due to the quality. Seems like with reps it's always a matter of wiggle, push and pull..
  22. I was just thinking this very issue... mod out a noob and I even had a marlin movement with all the fine details looking like gen... but in the end...I just will take the plain noob v3. We are always trying to improve the rep to get just like the gen but on slow Sundays I have to ask why? Usually it is only us that even knows any of these details like a y incabloc...personally I think this quest is just a projection of an inner journey to fine tune our lives..our minds..and our consciousness.
  23. A little off topic, but personally I worry about using "one dip" just has so many warnings and mine, even with a tightly closed lid, still seemed to "disappear" over time.
