  1. I wonder if all watches are in constant flux and its only when someone observes them and collapses the probability wave that it either becomes a rep or a gen?
  2. Well...I put a few drops on the stem where it is suggested and then move it around a little with a piece of watch paper....but I think it would move around on its own...but what do I know...having trouble getting the gear train to line up today.....lol...
  3. i go w the smallest...heard once better to under oil rather than over.. open to more experienced opinions
  4. I'm sure this link has been posted many times...but I just find it so entertaining to watch...I'm such a watch geek that for me,,,this is almost as relaxing as actually working on a movement. I just don't like rotors....they get in the way...And while a very interesting invention on their own,,,its like inventing a replacement for something one actually enjoys....I like winding... and what I like about this link is that it gives an oil guide....ever notice that some of your watches are hard to pull out to set the time? this shows exactly what needs oil.. http://www.eta.ch/swisslab/6497/6947.html
  5. 44mm with 24mm lugs...which is nice to have a dressy watch with a wider strap... Here's another with a nice dial...
  6. i just got it from shophq for a little over 500 ..looks very nice in person. runs great but two year warranty...just wanted a warranty w Asian tourbillion..
  7. actually,,,IMO,,,some of the older stuhrlings were great catches.....there was a highly unlikely story that the same person who makes Frank Muller dials also made dials for stuhrling...In any case,,,some of their dials are pretty cool...I have this one on today by chance...
  8. I wonder if the cold is contracting the case....and putting some pressure on the dial? perhaps the hour wheel is being pushed down and this is slowing it? I know a few movements I've put in such that there was even a little pressure here or there...would stop it...
  9. i agree price competes w reps..maybe its low because buying right from factory w no one adding on?
  10. I can't see how companies like Steinhart are really using 100% swiss movements...just the movements along would cost most of the price of the watch....There has to be something we are missing...don't get me wrong...I might pick up the bronze pilot myself...like rolexman said...I wonder if these movements are swiss and Asian mixed?
  11. What about the one with the green dial? I like Steinhart myself....crazy prices...I mean,,there 47mm bronze handwind pilot with a very nice 6497 (even the pallet bridge is decorated) is going for about 500 (usd)...You can't touch anything used for that....However,,,,they do seem to be getting too big for themselves...poor quality control has been coming up here and there...So,,I hope they can keep up.
  12. I've been buying and selling for a long time......just as a rule I never spend money until I hear the buyer is happy. My gen PO had a scratch on the bezel I missed when selling and sure enough when I looked at my pics,,it was there. ended up doing partial refund for a few hundred...but in the end...the buyer was happy...you never know the type of ocd the buyer might have...for some a scratch kills the whole watch....for me...I couldn't care less about a scratch...but 100 other weird things mess up the whole experience for me....just my take on it...
  13. pretty cool....seemed to know a lot about watches...if it was a mechanical....I wonder how they would report the timing? Which position would space be?
  14. cool....thanks for sharing....still can't bring myself to spend the cash on the gen...Ob the rep move is a big giveaway....any idea how many rep versions there are of the 372,,,mine looks pretty close but swear it has a gold cannon pinion..
  15. I'm going to agree that if you open the back....there will be a small screw close to where the stem enters....screw it all the way in...tighten it up..doesn't have to be super tight just when you feel it stop..then try it...don't have to take off crown guard for this..just back and make sure you have small screw driver..
  16. what kind of watch/caseback? How much is it off....a few mins or more over 24 hours? I've been using motor city watch works..I would think for something simple like that should be fast turn a round....there is another that comes up a lot watch repair usa...seems like a fast turn a round. with a rubber ball to get the back off and a tooth pick,,,you can get the unitas within about 15 seconds a day... can always send it to me,...would be happy to give it a shot...
  17. Only a few times from the AD,,,,I would rather go slightly used from one of the forums from someone who's been around a while....
  18. I remember reading somewhere....that you should not hand wind automatics because the gears are so small...if someone cranks on them...its easy to break off the teeth and then you need to replace the whole auto winding system....but this sits under the rotor...I've replaced a few on the 2824,,,so I think its the same deal if you get a good replacement...but that usually means finding a 28** that has something else wrong with it,,but the auto winding is fine...but if you can get the back off....the autowinding system is held on by a few screws and should lift right off..
  19. I put one together similiar to AJ but with parts from otto frei,,,,,did the blue hands...light dial....love that combo..this place has a nice set up....I wish my tools and table looked like his....
  20. thanks Pete,,,,lol...I like chrisage....but time will tell if that is a good thing to do or a bad thing to do....going to attempt the balance......see what happens...I should have practiced more before just jumping into the movement...but I have such a planned cautious life....good to live on the "edge" with watches...
  21. Here's my first shot at a movement...used to be the boring checkerboard pattern....very thin coating that came right off.....so I ended up down to the brass...I believe...which looks ok I think....you can tell my hand is not as steady as a pro....its actually pretty hard to see what you are doing.....
  22. thanks Pete,,,some cool sites....stuhrling probably gets some crap...but some of their dials are very nice...I had an old school one....one of the nicest dials...they used to say their dial maker was the same as muller's..... DId a little with a buckle....I like how it turned out..
  23. amazing...made my friday morning....
  24. Probably the pam 372,,,tons of vintage DNA but also modern with the in house movement (even if I've heard some bad stories about it). Its on my list the next time I fall into money....
