IAN2109
Hi,Just received a 1680 from Trevor for conversion to a 5513.Good looking watch but there is an issue with the bezel. It is slightly loose and when you rotate it, it glides round smoothly rather than ratcheting round. Also, the insert is slightly loose too.It was quite a wait to get this vintage sub so not that keen to send it back. Can this be fixed easily? Thanks in advance! asciwhite
That is how the vintage bezels work man. Enjoy the watch
Sub007
Hi mate, a 1680 has a the Rolex `Auto Lock` bezel system which is not anything like the newer type of bezels you will find on the later Subs like the 16610. So you have the correct bezel, only thing is that the rep will most likely move freely without even putting pressure on it. The GEN and better aftermarket ones will stay in their position but even then these are known to move about. Not so nice when you´re diving and you want to know how much time there´s left before you need to surface :-) So that´s why the uni directional system (we now see in all bezels) was developed. So congrats on your vintage 1680 and if you want to fix it I suggest you contact @ingelero as he has just the bezel assembly you need
dbane883
If the bezel is gen construction, there will be a tension washer when the bezel is removed. It should be bent to create 3-4 "waves". This will "lift" the bezel to create more friction. Then when you want to rotate, you will press down slightly to turn. Not sure that's the case with yours but the bezel can easily be removed to see if there a friction washer in there.

ProMariner
The Trevor 5513/1680 doesn't have a gen specs construction they are retained by an octagonal spring, so there is nothing you can do to stop it from moving freely the only way is to remove it and install a gen specs bezel assembly with a washer/tension ring.Plus Trevor 5513/1680 bezel doesn't accept genuine insert or a gen specs insert, as the diameter of the bezel is way too large. I hope this helps !
ProMariner
ERRATUM: Trevor 5513 doesn't even accept a gen like bezel assembly because the crystal is directly retained by the case and the bezel is specifically made for the case: e58d5736c8d1c6c052a9276a30831ff8.jpgthis has been modded by the way, i drilled the lugs installed an athaya 702 crown and tube + re engraved the serial number and ref number and beveled the lugs
