slay
I have a circa 50 year old movement that is very hard to wind, and I dont think its good on the crown and because of that I want to make the winding smoother. What could be the reason for the winding being so hard? On my asian unitas, the winding is very very smnooth. Even my 50+ year old Cortebert 616 has smooth winding compared to this movement. My guess is, that it could be because it has a harder mainspring, that is harder to wind. Replacing the mainspring with a "softer" one is probably not possible, is it (because then, the movement wont have enough power)? I'd like to try this on my own, without getting it serviced by a watchmaker, because other than that, the movement runs fine as long as you dont touch the area around balance and keeps good time. Thanks!
gioarmani
On a movement that old, I wouldn't personally touch it; if it were mine. I'd definitely let a watchmaker handle that one. Probably just needs a lube or a simple adjustment--a click wheel or something small like that.
