davidk Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 check out this seller on ebay http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZ702phdQQhtZ-1 Is he selling modified MBW cases with gen parts installed on it? The red 1680 dial is not very good. He sells gens and real estate. He has decent feedback that appears to be legit. Recent reviews mention watches. The english is very broken, and it doesn't clearly say if the cases are gen.
ubiquitous Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Cases are not gen, but sold as 'replacement' cases (though never implied otherwise in the auction). They are not MBW, but very high quality. They also have some very cool Patek and VC frankens as well- all solid 18k that they don't offer for sale on eBay.

So does that mean they are 1:1 and the same grade of stainless steel?
ubiquitous Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Well, vintage Rolex used 316L, so grade of steel is the same. The change to 904L didn't happen until the mid 80's. As for being 1:1... Hard to say. They may be close, but not exact. I've not seen one of these cases in person to say one way or the other.
