mbko923
Hello all, I was just wondering, could anyone please tell me what they think of the Swiss Valjoux 7750 movement? How reliable is it? Is it a good movement? Where could I purchase it? etc. Please let me know!
new & improved osteopath
When not heavily laden with modifcations or extra complications, the 7750 (Swiss, of course) is a very well made, reliable workhorse of a movement, able to take a fair amount of abuse. -O
Guest avitt
The 7750 is one of the most reliable and well-respected chronograph movements available. Take a look through this database, to see just how many watch manufacturers rely on this movement: Orbita Watch Database Here are a couple of nice articles on the 7750: The Valjoux 7750 The Valjoux Engine
Watchmeister
When properly serviced it is a great workhorse movement. When you buy new the question is really what you are getting. Today many suppliers sell "Swiss 7750" and true vaccuum packed swiss version for twice that amount. For that reason I prefer to buy old movements and service them. That way I know where they were made and who assembled them.
mbko923
Hey thanks guys for the help, I really appreciate it . I was thinking of buying a replica Alain Silberstein watch and basically removing that crap movement it comes with and having the Valjoux 7750 movement installed. Does anyone know somebody who could do that for a relatively cheap price (bearing in mind that I would supply the watch)? What would you say is the hourly rate for a watchmaker? I would like to know so that I don't get ripped off lol. Also, I will pretty much do the same thing for another piece that requires an ETA 2836-2 movement...what do you guys think of this movement??? Finally, does anybody know a site/factory/watchmaker that could replicate extremely complex pieces, I would like to replicate the following watch (see pic attached)??. Let me know and thanks again for all the help!
new & improved osteopath
the silberstein you have pictured requires a 7751 movement. This is essentially a 7750 with calender, moonphase module attached. This could be a more difficult swap than a 7750 if the date/month/moonphase windows do not line up- and if it came with a non-functioning chrono movement, this is very likely to be the case. Be careful. -O
