thealphabeta
Hey all, My Linksys WRT54g is up the creek.... Got home one weekend and only the diagnostic llight and power light were one. Now i have been informed that some of the early models had troubles with the power supplies. I think this may be the case as many people have informed me of this. I bought a universal power supply today only to find it had 4.5 and 6v but not 5 which the original supply is. Can i get away with either side of 5v? Now if i plug it in on 4.5v observing polarity i get the same two lights on but also all the other flash on and off....any thoughts? Sorry i know this is a long shot but was hoping someone might know! Dave
cwai02
Before you try to change the router, I suggest you to upgrade the firmware first. Which version is your WRT54G? v3 and v4 is the best. Check here: http://www.linksysinfo.org/ I am using HyperWRT 2.1b1 +tofu13c firmware on my v4 WRT54g.

bres3000
Tried connecting....no such luck im afraid. The lights are on but no ones home!? Would 6v fry it? Could. My advice, don't try it. A matching power supply might take some time to get...... A new router is, what, 60 bucks or so?
thealphabeta
Have also tried resetting it to no avail!
cwai02
Have also tried resetting it to no avail! Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds. That should clear the NVRAM. Btw, have you changed the Local IP Address of the router? If you still can't access the router, I don't think the power supply can do any good. Firing 6V is a bad idea as it may fire the board. Btw, are you connecting through wire or wireless? Is the light on when you use local ethernet? Edited April 10, 2006 by cwai02
