Aging a Pepsi Bezel Insert

Tried aging a Pepsi bezel insert for the vintage GMT Master project I'm working on by soaking it in a solution of bleach, water and salt. Came out kinda blotchy. Any ideas on how to get a uniform fade? I've seen any number of posts on fading sub inserts and they seem to look a lot better than mine,

Any advice would be much appreciated.
