crystalcranium Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 I bought a Chinese automatic movement (DG2813 Asian) from cousins to put in a Sub using an aftermarket face. Sub hands fit it just fine(Min 1.00, Hr 1.50, Sec .17), but the date opening on the face was larger than the date wheel on the movement. Cousins sells a similar automatic movement (SD6D) with a wider date wheel but the hand sizes are listed with different numbers (Hands Ø - Min .80, Hr 1.35, Sec .21, ). What do these numbers mean? Do they refer to length or something else? Are the hands that fit the first movement interchangeable with the second?
dachshund Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 Hands are not interchangeable. Those numbers are the size of the hole where the hand presses onto the hour, minute, and seconds shafts.
sssurfer Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 As a last chance, a good watchsmith might be able to make hands fit on different pins -- with the help of a reamer, in case. Additionally, my watchsmith also told me that he would prefer to fit a too narrow hand on a large pin than a too large hole on a thin pin. No pun intended.
