georgegrasser Posted October 18, 2007 Report Share Posted October 18, 2007 After taking out my Ebel 1911 from the safe, the dial, numerals, and hands were discolored to the tune of $600 for repair. They said storing the watch with the crown out dried out the movement. Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped my new Accutron Innsbruck today. Once you open the crown, moisture and the elements can enter the case. Moisture can also damage dials over time. Batteries are cheap and last a few years assuming they remain dry.
