georgegrasser Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 After taking out my Ebel 1911 from the safe, the dial, numerals, and hands were discolored to the tune of $600 for repair. They said storing the watch with the crown out dried out the movement. Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped my new Accutron Innsbruck today. They recommend storing the watch with the crown out to save on battery life. http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products/L10756074.jpg
Jetsons Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Movements are best kept in a moisture free environment which a quality sealed case does. Once you open the crown, moisture and the elements can enter the case. Moisture can also damage dials over time. Batteries are cheap and last a few years assuming they remain dry. I would keep the crown closed and take my chances on the battery life. Sorry to hear about your Ebel.
