stilty Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I was reading somewhere about a glitch in a computer program that translates Chinese characters to English and it is causing a lot of problems with signage. The government has set up a task force to clean up the signs before the Olympics. I guess the Chinese word "gan" means "dry" or "to do", but is being translated to another word that has a completely different meaning. Unless of course you fancy a nice "dry" (insert transalation here). The Etiology and Elaboration of a Flagrant Mistranslation Make sure you scroll down through the whole article to see examples of Mistranslated signs.
