What's te need for a tall cannon pin?

So what are the reasons one would want a tall cannon pin? I thought it was to space the hands out further to give clearance for lume mods on a sandwich dial? Why would you need one if you have a sausage dial? Like this:Tall cannon pin

What you Want and what you need are 2 different things. IMHO you don't need a tall pin for it to go over raised markings on a dial. What you may Want is it to look like a gen, thus the need for a tall pin. If you are looking for the later I would avoid that Pam in your link as it is nothing like a 172 regardless of what the pin may look like.
