DemonSlayer Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I'm going to do a some dial swaps for a couple of my reps, and I'm beginning to purchase the relevant tools which will be required. I don't know which magnification on the loupe is best for this sort of work. The three common ones I see are 4X 5X and 10X. Which would be best?
Ztech Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I'd say you can do with 4X or 5X for hand removal. 10X is more for really tiny stuff. Good luck.
DemonSlayer Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 Thanks Ztech. Another thing which is confusing me, is how the hell do you hold the loupe onto your eye without it being attached on anything. I was thinking of purchasing the steel headband that looks like a wire, and then use this to hold the loupe in place ontop of my eye. I would think it might be too risky if you hold the loupe on your eye by squinting, it could drop onto your work.
Ztech Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Huh? I just superglue it to my face... ;p j/k Yes, I've used the metal band thing and I've also tried the squinting technique. The squinting seems easier for work requiring shorter work durations. The metal band thing makes me feel like I'm trying to be a bad stand in for Princess Leah.
King Charles Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I must have poor squint muscles as the loupe always seems to pop-off at the wrong moment, landing on and scattering all the little bits that I had carefully removed. So now I place the loupe in the space between my spectacles and face. Sure it affects the magnification - but only by a little.
Toadtorrent Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 You can get one with a thin metal band...I clip mine to my glasses...or you can use the visor ones for stereo vision
sssurfer Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Clip loupe on fake eyeglasses. Buy a $3 plastic eyeglasses and squeeze out the lenses. But no mag needed to remove and reinstall hands.
takashi Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Ok... Just get a loupe for spectacles wearer. It looks like a headband with the mag glass in front, very similar to those protective goggles on chemistry lab. You get extra benefit of bifocal sight too~.
Ztech Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 What... nobody suctions it to their eyeball??? ;p
