Ebay DSR ratings system

all im gonna say is it sucks!

ratings of 1-5 so a 4 = 80% pretty good right? WRONG = suspension.

so either they rate a 5 all the time... 'cause if you they rate one less then 5 or a 4 ever = less then the 5 and suspension.

no selling if they rate you a 4 or a 80% which in america = more then passing.

crasy.

You are absolutely correct... And it gets even worse.

My previous employer has over 15000 feedback and a 99.6% rating. BUT, his DSR only average 4.5.

WHY??? Because people think that his shipping rates are too high and that he takes too long to ship.

He relies on dropshippers for the most part, so processing and getting the item shipped can take 2-3 days. Because the dropshippers all charge a dropship fee, (typically 4-6 per package) his shipping rates are slightly higher than most. People think he is just "padding the shipping".

When his DSR's first dropped below 4.6 he started getting the calls from Ebay warning him that he was losing placement in the searches. This resulted in a HUGE drop in sales for him.He literally lost 25% of his business overnight because Ebay puts anyone with a 4.5 or lower at the very bottom of the search results (sometimes several pages back).

To make this even worse... If you read the communication that is sent out by EBAY to buyers, they tell the buyers that a 4 is perfectly acceptable and that a 5 is only reserved for an absolutely perfect transaction where the seller basically proved that he could walk on water.

He combats this to some extent by having his checkout system (channel advisor) send out numerous automated emails explaining all of this. He states that if there is ANYTHING that he can do to make the transaction better, let him know before leaving feedback or DSR's. THIS has caused another problem... people now write asking for FREE things to be shipped off in exchange for better DSR's. People ask for FREE guitar straps that were not to be included, instructional materials, guitar tuners, picks, etc. SO if he wants those 5's he has to go to the expense of shipping off free merchandise.

Ebay has become a place for buyers, not sellers. We went from doing $100-$250k per month in sales to him doing less than $50k. He has closed his warehouse completely, moved out of his offices and works out of his home and garage. He had to lay off 8 of his 9 employees. He only has a 19 year old kid left who helps him pack some things each day.

I dont work for him any longer, but I consider him a close friend and it has truly been sad what has happened to him. YES, its partially due to the economy. But alot of it has to do with how Ebay has shut the seller out.
