  1. It's fine if he doesn't want anything to do with some of you anymore, BUT fer[censored]sake, grow up and let them know where their property is and when they can expect to see it. This includes Finn. I have no respect for people who dismiss their basic professional responsibilities even if they think their customers are dicks at this point. It's just childish. Man up and handle your business - customers sucking is no excuse to effectively steal their property.

  9. The DGs etc are cheaply made Chinese movements based on the seagull Chinese movements..... the 2813 is basically on par with a Miyota 8215...however it has similar sizing to any ETA 28**s.... there are variable in hand sizing etc but generally speaking.. Overall they are cheap movements which cost anything from $5 to $10 at best $20-30 at worst.... they are easy to work on but are not worth having serviced... so if you can do the work thats great but the movemnts are not worth the expense of a service....if you do have one that goes its better to replace... They tend to be used by the makers to replace 2836 movements...and as such tend to be hacky in thier sweep when compared to a 2836.... so you tend to be able to spot them from the seconds hands movement around the dial...or register. As with any Chinese made movement in reps... they vary mainly in quality.... so you can get one that will go on and on or you can get one that will last only a short time.... thsi is because they are sourced from different makers (not rep makers...movement makers who supply the rep makers)...so say a noob 2813 might vary in quality from say a BP makers 2813... however you also have to add in the other usual issues that effects all chinese and rep watch movements...that is dirt, over or under oiling and generally sloppiness in building, handling, storing and shipping I have had a few reps with these movements... generally if the gen has a well known clean sweep seconds hand I tend to avoid them but for lesser known models I have had them or if I want to try a cheaper version before committing to a new movement or better version rep... Out of the dozen or so i have had I would say the failure rate/quality has been around 75%... but that really is luck or rather bad luck... Overall they can be decent workhorses for budget reps.... but dont consider ever paying to get one serviced..... it really aint worth it given the cost of the service.... generally it would work out cheaper to get a ready to go Swiss... assuming you use your search skills or just a clone

  10. I could wait on the Noob 127 to become available again, so I decided to go ahead am buy a 217 in the meantime. Along the way, I was able to buy a genuine dial, hand set, and crown guard. I was also very fortunate to have a look at a genuine crystal and OPX movement. I took some pictures of the genuine parts and Noob for future comparison. I am not a wordsmith so I will let the pictures do most of the talking. I will apologize in advance for the pictures not being the exact same size. It looks a little weird when posted side by side. So....here are those comparison results, as well as my finished 217. Let’s start off with the dial. Here is the Noob dial and genuine dial side by side: (gen on left) The dials are very close to one another but the 1 in 12 is the biggest tell to me. Now let’s look at the print: Genuine Noob Genuine Noob Genuine Noob Now let’s have a look at the crystal. Here is the Noob crystal and a WSO crystal (Noob is on the left): Now let’s look at a genuine crystal compared to the WSO crystal (genuine crystal is mounted in the bezel) Next up is the crown guard. The Noob crown guard is very close but there are several small differences (genuine on the left). [ Here is the genuine crown guard next to a modded Noob crown guard. The Noob crown guard was drilled out for a gasket and the lever tip modified for a more genuine shape (genuine on the left). The Noob hands are close to the genuine article, but the tips are blunt instead of sharp. I had a set of Noob, genuine, and DSN hands available for the comparison (genuine on the left). Hour Hand Minute Hand Seconds Hand Now all three (genuine, Noob, DSN) I then wanted to compare a genuine OPX movement to my modified movement. I wasn’t quite done with the modifications when these pictures were taken, but I think you will get the idea. And finally some random pictures of the finished product. I know someone will ask for a list of mods so here goes: Genuine dial Genuine hands Genuine crown guard WSO crystal with stripped AR 6497-2 barrel complete 6497-2 lower center wheel jewel 6497-2 center wheel 6497-2 fourth wheel 6497-2 escape wheel 6497-2 pallet fork 6497-2 click 6497-2 set lever spring 6497-2 minute wheel Flat polished cannon pinion Stripped hour wheel ETA incabloc Shaped and plated swan neck spring Hfac swan neck screw 6497-2 ratchet wheel 6497-2 crown wheel 6497-2 click screw 6497-2 ratchet wheel screw 6497-2 crown wheel scew Mainplate engraving I think that is all of the mods that I can think of right now. I should also say that all were performed by me except for one (you know who you are and thank you!!!!). I hope that this has proven to be helpful for some looking to do a 217 build. I would like to thank all of those how were involved in helping me get this together. This is truly a great community. Thanks for looking!!!!!!

  11. Ya' know, they said the very same thing about Medicare, back in 1964. At that time doctors in the U.S. were mostly 'general practitioners', not specialists to any extent. In the cities most doctors made house calls, had an office up the narrow stairway from a drug store, and if they were paid cash they were happy. Even in the city barter was prominent, doctors driving the used car they had been paid with. Painting, plumbing, maintenance, electrical work, all to pay a bill. Medicare changed all that. It brought all those millions of elderly that could not pay their medical bills to become paying patients. That forced insurance companies to expand their products, and that helped to make a strong economy that forced businesses to provide health care coverage as perks in order to keep their employees. Physicians, who were almost always the most respected person in a community, were usually the monetarily poorest, unless they came from a wealthy family. Within 24 months of Medicare and what it brought with it, physicians were becoming wealthy. The used car gone, a new Cadillac out front. No more house calls, and more specialists. The GP wasn't doing your surgery any longer. It was a good thing. Doctors were being paid for their sacrifices of years in education, and being on call 24/7. But doctors and hospitals and services are not being paid for their work and health care for those who did not have insurance, including illegals. President Reagan made it law that anyone with no health care coverage would get health care at the emergency room, and could not be turned down. Certainly some abuse this program. The costs are spread out and averaged in so that all those who do have coverage, pay for those who don't. With the Affordable Care Act everyone must have health care coverage, or face a fine. The costs are subsidized for those at lower income levels, the pricing looks to be much more than fair and affordable. Doctors and hospitals will have 30+ million new paying patients, replacing 30+ million non-paying patients through the ER. The ACA is self-funding, which shows what sort of lies the Republican/conservative/Tea Party are telling in opposition to it.There are many ways it is self-funded, student loans being one way. Student loans used to be 'free' business guaranteed by the government and given to the banks. The same banks that crashed our economy. Now those student loans are part of the ACA, and the interest,, lowered, goes to fund the ACA. The ACA is not a health care coverage itself, but instead establishes 'exchanges' , a place where insurance providers can be shopped and compared and exposed for what they do and won't do. All these years insurance companies have been regulated by each state. Whether life, car, home, commercial or health insurance, each state controlled who could sell insurance in their state. That 'State's Rights' was vehemently defended by conservatives. Insurance companies could not go across state lines. So, little or no competition. Some states have as few as 2 insurance companies approved in their state. Now with the ACA all the insurance companies that choose to, can offer their product in each exchange. Full competition. Obviously, being a Liberal, I support the ACA. I would prefer universal Health Care in an industrialized Nation that brags a lot, but is last to address the health care of it's citizens. I think the ACA is a very good first step.
