  1. Just wondered if anyone had ever sold a gen watch and replaced it with a rep version? I know it happens a lot the other way around, but has anyone ever done this and why?

Many of us have a lot of money tied up in genuine watches and it often crosses my mind as to whether the difference is worth it? particularly in the case of custom build pieces. I don't think I'll ever do it but your never know I suppose!

  2. A few years ago I owned a DW Mystery Movement 6263 of the first generation.

    I really loved it!

Unfortunately it broke a year after I've bought it and I was never able to get it repaired.

Since I'm not willing to drop $$$ on a V72 I had to look for other options.

Chi did a review on how to modify the ST-19 to accept a gen size dial, so I started to look into it further.

Rolojack did great mods to a 6238 too.

So I did the following to the Cartel 6263:

    - slimmed down the mid-case

    - slimmed the Cartel hands as they are too wide

    - modified the case to accept a DW bezel

    - retapped the case to accept a 702 tube

    - retapped the case to accept DW's pusher

    - modified the pushers to reach the ST-19 movement

    - modified the movement to accept the DW dial

    - modified the bezel to fit genuine tropic

    - install a genuine coronet on the dial

    - install a genuine 702 crown

    - install a genuine 7836 bracelet

    - install a genuine T21

    So there it is:

    Anyways...more to come

Congratulations, it's a great looking watch I have a question about when you say you 'slimmed down the mid case case' can you go into any more detail in what exactly you did please? Cheers!
  3. Hello all, signed up here years ago when I was thinking of buying a vintage sub replica. After asking for advice here, you good people recommend I bought a gen 14060m in the end (my budget in 2008 being £1400) which is exactly what I did and I'm so grateful I took your advice :) since then I've added a gen 18k 1601 DJ which I'm also very happy with but sadly any further gens seem out of the question especially as I've a hankering for a vintage Daytona!

Anyway it's good to be back here, rep forums are so much more interesting than gen forums for some reason? I'm blown away by how much the rep scene has improved and as ever I take my hat off to some of the mods and builds I've seen around here. Outstanding.

    Cheers guys.

  4. Hi! Ive been looking for a decent vintage Daytona on the M2M sales forums and its realy hard to find one, so im considering getting one from a TD. Now that DW had dissapeared, which one would you guys recommend as a worthy alternative?

I've been thinking the same thing, Phong, Yuki etc are too expensive, DW unreliable so am thinking of modding a cartel daytona, will follow this thread with interest..

  5. I don't have a good Monaco rep anymore, but I do have the gen!

The gen Monaco chrono (whether McQueen or std black) dial is made for the calibre 17 which is based on the ETA 3894-2. Its has a narrower sub dial spacing than the Miyota OS20 quartz.

If you're referring to the asian auto movt then I dont know - but anyway the spacing of the gen Steve McQueen sub dial centres is 15.5mm across

thanks guys dosnt look like a gen dial will fit. There was/is one on the bay. Anyway, cheers!
