  1. I assume this is the watch you got

    swiss_rolex_daytona0049.jpg

Unfortunately, this looks like a picture of a gen Daytona 6263 (or one of Avitt's 'twins'). Many scammers use pictures of gens on their websites & even though they promise 'The pictures you see are of Actual Replica Watches, You will get exactly the same watch you see in the Pictures', that is rarely the case. You may or may not have an ETA movement, but, more likely than not, since you say all of the chrono functions work, it is probably the same standard Asian 7750 that all of the collectors here sell in their watches (for considerably less money).

Not like that one it had a black face but its working fine and pin point accurate hasnt lost half a minute from My Applemac (time set by mac) clock in two weeks but I have had a few replicas that are completely different from the picture, like totally different watches just the same brand is the only similarity, and I started getting a bit cheesed off with waiting for stuff and when you crack open the toy you got something as worthless as the plastic train it was ferried in. Thats why im turning to Dr Frankenstein in future.

  2. Dear Gang

I recently bought a replica (supposedley Swiss) Vintage Daytona from replica-supplier.com Its the correct size 37mm, Its automatic with seconds at nine, the movement is not gold of colour so ripped off there now they've stopped replying to my calls. but curiously enough it keeps spot on time better than any other replica ive had, could this be luck of the draw ? or what movement do you think I have . All the subdials work. ?

I would post a pic but I cant train mu puter to keep the size to a decent format Im working on it.

  3. While test-fitting my collection of gen & aftermarket Tropic 21 crystals on the 6241 Newman Daytona looking for the best match, I was amazed to find that the flat, beveled gen crystal gave the watch a rich, jewel-like appearance that none of the other crystals (including a rounded gen T21) could match. Although I tend to prefer rounded crystals on most vintage sport Rolexes, this watch quite literally snaps into focus & exudes a whole new presence when capped with this particular crystal (unfortunately, the photo does not begin to capture the synergy of this crystal/watch combination seen live)

    6241001.jpg

Curiously, I located a similar 6241 on Antiquorum that is fitted with the same crystal and, by sheer happenstance, the perspective in the Antiquorum photo & mine are nearly the same. So I thought a comparison of Lot 159 vs my DW 6241 would be insightful (pay particular attention to the images of the numbers from the left side of the running seconds subdial that are being refracted in the bevel of the crystal (at about 82 in the tachymeter))

    GenvsDW.jpg

Overall, it is quite striking how very similar in appearance these two watches are.

I should also mention that I took the watch out for a test drive to a popular upscale restaurant & bar last evening (I am still fine-tuning its timing). The wait for a table was so long that we decided to eat at the bar, which was filled to capacity with lots of Rolex-wearing yuppie types (myself included). As I sat eating my salad, I began to notice that some of the people who were standing next to me were peering, in a quite obvious way, at my watch, which would occasionally pop out from beneath my shirt cuff as I reached for my glass. After a few minutes, one of the suits broke through the hushed whispers of the group and asked to see my watch. The look on all of their faces pretty much told me what I already knew -- my Newman project was a complete and unmitigated success. After resetting their collective jaws (which had collectively dropped onto the bar), we began discussing watches and each demoed their respective Pans and Rolexes & relayed stories of previous collectible watch sightings around the city. It goes without saying that I had a nice meal and the Newman was quite a hit (Euno -- As promised, this watch will soon be fitted with my black Rolex lizard strap. I just need to sort out the ongoing movement stabilization issues in the 6239, so I can swap the folded link bracelet over to that watch).

    I love these watches.

I know I posted this elsewhere, but I think it merits repeating: Thanks to all who posted photos, tutorials, comments and inspiration along the way. But, most importantly, special thanks go to The Zigmeister, DW, Ubi, Tribal, Alligoat and especially Avitt, whose painfully beautiful 6263 & 6265 were the catalysts for this project. This watch could not have been completed without your kindness, support & assistance.

Its a lovely (Newman) Freddy Dont you just lovvit when people are stunned by the watch, I used to work on the London Foreign exchange on the yen desk and all the suits used to love having a great watch because they were always out on the lash after work flashing their rollies and their Amex gold cards.

Just tell me the watch looks too big to be a 37mm I thought a 39-40 mm would be a dead give away please inform me ? whats right?

  4. Hmm. I'm not sure what to make of this story, but it's good to know Steve and Ali's son name is Chad. Such an American name, don't you think?

If I were a more suspicious person, Mediawonk, I'd say you were planting a story on a replica site, for a future write-up. :p

Not quite sure what you mean by that maybe you are thinking ahead of me. but it was all in the name of fun. yeah Chad is a good name.

  5. This one looks a bit odd to me , Very expensive , factory condition Been on the auction site for years. Whats the story we should give her a name?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-VINTAGE-DAYTONA-...1QQcmdZViewItem

I was impressed with the geranium garden backdrop, I see the price is $49.000.00 that could be too rich for anyones blood but its impeccable condition un scratched and is that the factory plastic red stripe I see on the back.

If this has never been worn then Im sure someone would pick up this gem. BUT $50.000.00 Cooooeeee!

  6. So im a bit of a social dare devil right! I live in South Africa and recently had my brother in law from Los Angeles stay with us in our beautiful house in the mountains.

I happen to love replica watches because I like seeing how close you can get to the real thing I have gens too.

Here's the story. Ive got a friend who like me made our money in the square mile London for years and I drifted to a more tropical Zone for adventure. He is a bit of a BS'er on the phone and is always telling me yarns that I know aren't true like deals he's done that I know are fake . he happens to love watches too. In Fact we both went to 'Watches of Switzerland, Bond street (London) together to buy matching Rolex Datejusts in full rose gold and doled out

  7. Vintage Daytona? What does it mean when the moving second hand on the sub dial is at the 9 o'clock dial? aren't they usually at 6 Oclock? This is an auto winder but I laso have an auto winder FRANCK MULLER and the second moving hand is at 6 oclock? so it cant be the difference between auto and hand wind?

  8. I enjoyed Transporters for the great watch sightings. :p So far, though, we've spoken of subdials and chronos, etc.

    How about the printing?

That can really clutter up a lot of the watches. OTOH, I love me some Pateks, but this is just TOO plain.

    3468.jpg

Its not too plain look....The 12 , 3, 6, and 9 have double sticks. AARRRRGGGGHHH! I can't look it toooo busy!! take it away!

  9. He also uses his sub bezel as an angle grinder to cut through Hand ties to avoid being dropped into a shark pool.

Classic Bond stuff went to te cinema to see it when it was first released as a kid.

QUESTION: What is the exact Example they used for the pic I think it was a single or double red sea dweller ? And can I get one wuith a saw and magnet 'frankened' by someone??

  10. Im looking for a Decent MBW DRSD I dont mind what I pay, As I think these Swiss ETA'S go on for life , tell me if you think thats not so ?

But without endorsing anyone (i did ask) who in your opinion has the best one? I want the right back and pressure tested to at least 50m not to yellow markers 'Patent pending' would be even better

Andy of TT has sold out so where now?

  11. Woah! Woah!...... Slow down now you guys lets not start coming over in a cold sweat just yet waiting for our 'watch porn' to arrive' He saying "my Grandad is sporting the equivalent of Jessica Alba on his arm"

Have you even considered this could be in his dreams and hes doing it to get a rection from you salivating wolfhounds. I want to see Grandad in the picture too not just some Promotion shot or Archive Pics.

So bring it on down, my suspicions were aroused when he dropped in the comment " he kept it in a dusty cupboard for most of its life, never hardly wore it" yeah right! Im too long in the tooth to be believing such stuff .

You will be saying next that the coffer it was kept in is actually the 'Arc of the covenant'

We will see , I will make a firm apology in capitals and cower into a corner quivering and mumbling nonsensical gibberings if I see genuine proof!

Its a full month on and he didnt come up with the goods..Im going to enjoy my porridge!

  12. Metal expandable watch straps! You know the one your grandad wears . The only place you can usually buy them is in run down old shoe menders and key cutters.

But are their any dealers who do nice rolled gold al-a-carte ones wider heavier with some decoration on them. I think these old straps should make a comeback. but really good quality versions. the ones you buy hanging on a strip of card always look tatty and plain. My grandad left me a really nice art deco one from the thirties But its a bit small.

Anyone come across some good examples?

  13. Is it possible to get a modern steel Daytona and stick a Paul Newman dial on it will all the sub dials line up? cuz I know different dealers sell different faces and sometimes the dials are too bunched up or too far apart.

But if I got a real Daytona (modern) and sent it to someone like Jong would he be able to fit a classic old dial?

Just to make it unique. and probably a rarity as the old dials are much nicer than those modern 'Hoops' for subdials what do you think??

P.S.I know the original dials were to fit a 37mm watch but people are making the bigger ones.? any one had this done before?

  14. The bezel tachy is used to clock speed, on a distance of one mile, only. So the numbers on the bezel actually represent MPH (miles per hour), just like the speedometer on your dashboard.

If the distance between point A & point B on a track (be it for horses or cars) is exactly 1 mile, the second the moving object you're timing passes point A, you start the chronograph--the second the moving object passes point B, you stop the chronograph. Wherever the large second hand on the chronograph stops (on the bezel), is the exact MPH the object was traveling. In the picture below, a car clocked on the track between points A & B, appears to be traveling 160 MPH:

    IMG_0001-8.jpg

An easier example would be, if you're driving at 60 MPH, you're traveling 1 mile for every minute. Which is why the 60 is at the top of the bezel, at the 12 o'clock position--if it took a full 60 second rotation of the chronograph hand between points A & B--the time to travel exactly one mile--then you're going exactly 60 miles per hour.

Thanks! It all makes perfect sense now. Sheeez Im glad I joined this forum as you guys know it all. I have always wondered about that bezel. Why also have you got a picture of my wife in bed on your signature. ?

My vintage starts measuring in that case after fifteen seconds only as the units per hour start at tha crown unlike your more modern version.

  15. You had me at best.

I think that Breitlings must be difficult to read with those pilots trying to control their planes aswell as read the time. I mean you dont want to look at 'war and peace' every time you glance at the time..get a vintage Daytona and be done with all those Christmas decorations.

  16. Thanks! It's not much, but I have enough tools to do a complete and proper disassembly and reassembly. I already had many tools that I use for mods (drill press, buffer, Dremel...). I would advise anybody thinking about taking their watch apart to invest in the proper tools first.

As you can see in the pic, I have several cheap tools like the pin press, crystal press and other misc tools. Cheap plastic tools like these are fine and get the job done but I would recommend purchasing high quality Swiss or vintage tools such as screwdrivers, picks, tweezers, hand pullers and punches.

Like the watches dont like the guns I think you could defend your self by flashing a good rep at the intruder as he will get jelous and just run back to his mom instead.

I noticed you had two 'McQueen' Explorers one Asian one Swiss both not working . Well I had The same watch from Andy at tt and its as trusty as a trusty old thing. I can see why they werent popular in their day as the face is a bit of a mess You cant see where the markers at a glance . If you were dangling from a mountain on a bosuns chair and someone threw you a rope at the same time as asking you the time you would miss the rope and fall . some explorer.

  17. I love the old vintage daytonas and double red sea dweller but the curse of the wakling too quickly next to a wall with artex plaster and grazing it...throughout you life you are gonna collect a eclectic array of different scratches on the watch glass. so whats the answer. is there a miracle solvent or something that re shines the glass.

What do the people do who have genuine $30.000.00 originals they must freak out when they catch a baseball and go skidding along the dirt to impress the kids. And don't say 'leave the watch in the locker room'...Dah! we only wear them so the other dads get insanely jealous. SO what do we do.? Cuz its a known fact that men check out other mens watches . If you look through the corner of your eye at the supermarket checkout you will see them.

Ive even had people come up to me drooling over my vintage Daytona asking me all sorts of questions like how I came about it. (I have a script answer to that one that involves an old Hollywood film star, who made a bet with me over a hand of poker at a party in the hills.) but we wont go there now. I won. tsk! tsk!

Well come on if you're gonna go fake you might aswell have a story in reserve too. So what's the scratch solution?

  18. I have to do it once more (new pic)....courtesy of Zane on TZ....what a collection.....

    porc008hz1.jpg

You can say it's genius to have all these as they are great investments.

You can say it's 'stupid' to have so many of one Rolex model (they are slightly different, but still)

But I think we all agree on the following: WOW!

Tell me where you got the box , I want something like that? Also if you saw another Daytona' the same" but on a different site. would you be tempted to buy it hoping that its the best one yet.?

Why dont you try something a little different like Franck Muller.?

  19. i was really fortunate, and managed to snatch up twotone's dw daytona 6263 when he put it up for sale a while back in a moment of insanity.

i sent it on a trip to The Zigmeister pretty much immediately after i received it for a couple mods (more on that later), but quickly ran into a bit of a roadblock finding end links that fit properly (the ones that came on the watch weren't quite right). i bought a couple different bracelets in search of end links that fit properly, but didn't have much luck. :(

then one day joshua posted a new vintage daytona model for sale that had a bracelet with 571 endlinks, so i emailed him to see if he would be willing to sell just the bracelet and endlinks from this new watch. he indicated that he was, so i decided to give it a shot. well i'm really happy i did, as the end links fit the dw daytona perfectly. :tu:

my dw daytona 6263 is finally complete :victory:

and finally, a special thanks to twotone for his generous gesture to part with such a beauty

    thanks for looking ;)

    deltatahoe

Its a lovely example of an Exotic dial but I just is not for me as they need STICK markers as the face looks incomplete without them. but I can see where you have been wrestling to make other end links fit ..it looks like you have done a little tooling on the lugs to make the strap swing better.

Ive Got a Vintage 6365. (Iwill post a blinding pictiure of it when I get the hang of how to do it im working on it)

Ive managed to attach a modern Rolesor strap to it... Now I know you will go EEK! but it looks blinding, very steady end links no rattling and it has that unmistakable shiny midlink all around it. all that and UI got it to fit a 37mm case but I had to gently file the sides of the end link to make it fit between the lugs .

but it was worth it. im gonna post you a pic in a moment when I edit this.

    post-10697-1200742305_thumb.jpg

  20. Im a collector of many replicas some Swiss some Asian But we know then Swiss ones are better so Like me you have your favourites and when you go to your velvet box and open it up to say hi to some old friends that you bought a while ago but dont wear as often as you got favourites right?...like one favourite!...

If you were to travel the world getting into dangerous adventures, and you need to pick one stalwart one workhorse good looking never lets you down, wont go out of fashion not too faddy. one to be your friend on you epic journey.

Who would be your lucky watch???? she will be by your side all the time obeying you giving you the correct time and like a lady of your choice will always look good on your arm.

    NAME THAT LADY ??

  21. Is it true that with a professional franken build by the pro's (J & W) can they transform The valjaux so the bottom subdial works? this is on a vintage 37mm daytona conversion? 6263 and 6265. I dont want to pay alot of money and have a static needle at 6 oclock.
