That looks great!
how much was the MQ mid case if you don't mind me asking ?
Also, would happen to have a pic of the case back side ?
-
It kind of looked like a modified eta

What parts are you thinking of selling and at what prices?

looks great!

Looking good so far. :good:
a couple questions:
how well did the gen parts fit the ruby case without modification?
was there an issue using the 1570? or did you just want the correct cal (1520) for a 5513?

looks good. MQ case?

Hey guys.
Black Bay rep from maybe 2014? or 2015....
Went swimming in some coolish salt water, then in the hot sun noticed a dried water spot on the inside of the watch on the [censored] around the 3 o clock position.
Case back gasket was greased prior, crown was screwed down and I believe I even greased the gasket there as well.
Is this a failure of the Nylon crystal gasket? Or a crown tube? Or something else?
It seems to be common to reps, as my 14270 rep also has the same kind of spot in the same place but didn't come with me on this particular trip where the black bay developed this dried water spot.
thanks

"Why would you want to downgrade a 1570 to a 1520?"
Pretty good question.
For me...I did not have a spare 1520 so I went for a '5512' project with a 1570 rather than a '5513' project with a 1520.
"How easy is it to convert a Rolex cal. 1570 with date parts (from an oyster perpetual) for use as a 5513 cal 1520 movement? "
Complete no date 1570 and 1520 movements are interchangeable.
They are basically the same except for escapements. The 1520 has a flat hairspring and the 1570 has a Breguet overcoil HS. They are easy to tell apart after the differences have been pointed out so a 1570 in a 5513/AK etc would stick out if anyone was looking closely.
Converting a 1570/75 date movement to a no date to use in place of a 1520...remove all date parts and calendar spacer. Install 1520 center wheel with canon pinion and hour wheel (lowers hands).
Casing dimensions are different for 15xx date and no date movements...no date movements have stems closer to the front of the watch because of no date works. Mainplates etc are the same size, the calendar parts and calendar spacer make the difference and this is why the center wheel, CP, and hour wheel are different. The sweep second pinion is the same for them all, the difference is in the second hand tube.
Btw...a no hack 15xx movement can not be readily converted to a hacking movement. There is a groove machined in the hack movement mainplate for the hack lever. A hacking movement can be converted to a no hack movement by removing the hack parts.
Thanks so much for the info.
I seem to find 1570 date movements for sale quite readily and for less than 1520's
I have all the parts required to build a franken 5513 but still shopping for the correct movement.
You've pointed out some differences in the 1570 date movement that might be more trouble than it's worth to convert for use in a no date 5513 case.
so the answer is either a 1520 or a 1570 that came from a no date watch in the first place as being the best fit for use in a 5513?

Am I correct in thinking just remove the date mech parts and change the engraved 1570 bridge to 1520 (if you really want consistency) and you're good to go... or are there differences in cal. measurements that make this untenable?
I think hand sizes and dial feet holes are the same...
I think the balance wheel is slightly different though (inclusion of weights) but the beat is the same.

I'd believe Rolex made it.

first thing I noticed was how well the date wheel looked. usually too bold, but that looks more than decent stock.

looks really good :good:

quite nice! good build

gen?

very cool build :good:

$1200 vise?

looks good.
reps are amazing these days out of the box.

never really understood the point of a functional he valve on a rep build. (99% gen franken builds excluded, of course :D)
they're expensive, complicated, potential for leakage.
just sand the existing one with 2000grit to give it some contrast between the case and valve and don't worry about it.

that's a great build

very nice.
what gen parts did you use?

I bought bitcoin back in 2013 when it was 3 digits, sold it a year later making a 400% return. It's now too expensive for the average person to buy into. I think it'll recede to around $10k then rise again. I have bought into alt coins, as some are actually technically more robust than bitcoin with more of a future. Bitcoin right now is all speculation and marketing from people with vested interests. Here are some alt coins to consider that are cheap and can net you double your investment short term. The following I bought when they were half the price they currently are:
ripple xpr
gas
cardano ada
neo ans
eos
monero xmr
ethereum eth

MY = Michael Young. Well respected in the gen scene for his work on repairing bracelets. He also produces highly quality T19 crystals:

Sometimes you can pick up a used T19 service crystal from chronic-shop at a reasonable price:
chono-shop and "reasonable price" and usually not synonymous.
A 5513 too good to be true?

case is NOT genuine, lumi service parts but old style crown. Someone bought parts and assembled themselves with an after market case.
