  1. Hi,

    Venus 170 movement

Does anyone can tell me some information about the Venus 170 chronograph movement ? (also named "Up and Down chronograph")

I've heard it's a high end movement used back in the 40-60s by companies such as breitling and other top brands.

I've heard it's beats slow (18,000 if i'm not mistaken), and that it is a workhorse movement.

For how much do these vintage chronographs go for (in $$$) ?

I'm interested in information since I have a chance to pick up one of these and i'm quite interested, but dont know much about it.

Any info will be much appreciated.

    Many thanks!

  2. Thanks mate!

Well I'm my eyes the only visible differce between the gn sliderule I've picked up and the gen are the thicker arrow shapes (in red), but maybe im not looking good enough :(

About the production of a correct Date disc, yes I am serious about this (still working on it), it is aimed at eta 7753 movements, I've figured out that even if I transplant a gen 7753 into the navi with a gen dial and an eta date disc, it will still look awkward unless I can fit a navitimer specs date disc on that 7753 and make it an almost gen minus the case ;)

I hope that my project(s) will give fruits, now I've also found (in addition to the factory dealing with date discs) a factory that is capable of producing slide rules (I need to find somehow a really good graphics of the gen navi sliderule to make it work with them plus a big quantity)

  3. That link looks like scam - there's no way in the world you are getting a chrono rep with a swiss valjoux 7750 in it for 88 GBP ;)

(a gen valjoux 7750 movement alone is more than triple that price)

I'd stick to the trusted dealers on the forum (unless you have another dealer you can trust), this way you can trust the photos and know what you are getting.

I know that also, for the most sought after reps, some members have wrote reviews\mini-reviews you can read before you buy.

  4. Hi,

I am interested in starting a project for producing a correct per-gen sliderule for our navitimer reps (modern),

Correct the marking and numbering size to be as per the gen.

I have a local factory that is capable of producing slide rules, first I need to send them the inner and outer diameters of the sliderule plus a photo of a gen sliderule (as close, sharp and crisp as possible), they already have the breitling font setup.

Can anyone who has a broken, taken-apart navi can measure the sliderule ?

    Thanks,

    Db1

  5. Hi guys,,

thanks for the replies and invaluable info :)

I am very serious about this, I have already found a factory that is producing watch dials and inner bezels, could be interested to ask them if they also able to print date discs.

And if it will work out, I will make a good quantity of them (Even though I need only 2-3 of them, I wouldn't mind producing 50-100pcs)

I was thinking about taking a base breitling font date wheel and edit it to look as per navitimer (single digits are turned towards the outside),

I've found this somewhere on the forum:

  6. Thank you all for the replies !

Yes PeteM, I will need an ETA 7753 + Datewheel for the gen dial to work.

polexpete - so do you mean that the rep case need to be heavily modded (e.g drilled, glued, etc..) to fit the eta 7753 movement ?

I'll keep on searching on the forums - I've also found importr thread about his 7753 navitimer (sweet post)

I've also picked up a gen navitimer (vintage) sliderule which i wonder if I could swap as well (I am not sure if it's the correct one for my rep model)

    BTW:

I am not sure, but I think my navi rep version is v2 ?

(since it has the automatic movment and correct case back, but on the other hand - the sub-dials does have the piepan shape like on v1 - so how can I tell ?)

I will try to PM importr as well.

WIll keep you guys posted ! if anyone has a tip or info i'd appreciate it so much!

    Thanks,

  7. Hi all !

I've just picked up a gen breitling navitimer sliderule from the bay (title says it's from a vintage navitimer), And i've got a modern navitimer rep (tricompax).

The sliderule marking on the rep is pretty much identical on the gen part i've picked up and the rep (correct me if i'm wrong), would it be a good idea to swap the rep sliderule to the gen?

the only difference i've noticed between them is that on my rep navi - for a gen, the sliderule red "arrows" (on the 60, 10... positions) should be thin. and on the gen sliderule i've picked up they are tiny bit thicker.

Here are pics of my rep navi, a gen navim and the gen part - let me know what you think.

    Thanks!

P.S: i'm not sure if it's important but i've also have got a gen dial for this watch (same dial color and marking as well)

Photos are uploaded as follows - fist my rep, second the gen sliderule picked up, third a gen watch example

  8. Hi,

I know some reps lack the correct date font on their date discs and some are not being improved by the rep factories for whatever reason.

but - what if I have a date disc image that I want to print on an "empty" date disc ?

(for an example a navitimer correct date disc)

does anyone knows where it's being done ? what ink\toner material is being used for date disc printing ? what printer\machinary is being used?

are there any homebrew anternatives that are good?

anyone at all have tried this ?

    Many thanks,

    Db1

  9. Thank you pete, so much invaluable information in your reply. I guess it's all about networking and digging deeper to find the rare parts.

I'm looking for a gen slide rule and hand set for a navi.

Already have a gen dial, on the look for a 7753 (they are so expensive so I just have to look for a good deal).

I have a v2 (so I believe?) navi rep which I may want to transform into a franken navi.

The gen dial (after shaved a little) and the gen movement should be a snag fit so i've heard - not sure about a gen slide rule but seems legit.

  10. Hi mates,

Well I'm searching the web for a while, and i've noticed that it's kind of tough to get gen parts for breitling navitimers on the open market.

I could find a few gen dials here and there, maybe a crown, but I haven't seen anything like a gen sliderule, or date wheel, movement, hand set etc up for sale anywhere,

on the other hand - there are a plenty of gen parts for many other breitling models available on the bay (sometimes i've seen gen cases, complete movement+dial+hands etc,, but never of a navitimer)

are gen navi parts so hard to source ?

    any input will be appreciated.

    thanks,

    Db1
