  1. I have posted many topics about the mods I have made to my UPO to show off this watch along the way.

Each time I claimed to have completed my mod project, but each time i found myself wanting to go the next step!

The project over 6 months has cost a few pounds, but it's not as noticeable over time and I have enjoyed the challenge and reward of carrying out the mods myself.

I must add, I am a novice, it is down to threads from Ubiquitous, Pugwash and many others that have given me the courage to attempt these 'operations' myself!

So now I think I have finished and here she is:

    She is sporting:

    1. used gen bezel insert,

    2. gen dial,

    3. gen hands,

    4. gen crystal,

    5. gen crown and tube,

    6. gen datewheel and

    7. a nice rep rubber strap (maybe to be replaced by a gen strap of some kind!!)

I have to say IMO each mod is well worth it in its own right, even subtle mods like the datewheel and crown and tube, give it that slightly more crisp finish, If people ask if my watch is genuine, I will tell them no, because its not....but actually most of it is apart from the case and the movement!

  2. Hi,

My Franken UPO is nearing completion.

I have alrady done gen dial, hands, crystal and bezel insert.

I have been tempted to try to do the crown/tube mod (more for maintenance than aesthetics) but I have also ordered the gen datewheel.

As much as I am scared to take on my gen hands, I really would like the gen datewheel in place! Does anyone know of any tutorials/threads on te datewheel fix?

Can anyone offer any advice or tips?

    Muchas gracias

    Matt

  3. If you're going to parse my words, then yes that's what I said. My argument was that some people will replace everything except the movement with gen parts, which gives you a "gen" watch with no warranty, and cannot be sold as genuine.

It seems that the bracelet, crystal, and bezel are a must, next down is the dial and hands which until I actually see the rep, I don't have any plans for replacing those.

For me the whole franken project is a challenging hobby. I never intend to pass as a gen or sell as a gen, its just fun to do and gives a nice rewarding end result. For me the dial and hands was the most important modification, due to the overall quality and effect the gen dial has on the watch. You only really appreciate the crystal once its in the watch, the gens double AR is simply beautiful!

    voila

(gen dial, hands, crystal and bezel insert.)

  4. Thats a beauty, that is. A class act. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Does the gen bezel insert come with a pearl and were there any issues with fitting it to the UPO bezel.

The pearl on my UPO is horrible, completely different colour to the hour markers and stands out a mile.

I would n't mind a gen insert for mine, how much are they and where did you get it from, if you don't mind my cheek.

    Cheers

    Arniezac

The insert does come with the pearl, it required a hell of a lot of filing down with a warding file, it still isnt 100% flush, but its as near as damn it!

I sourced it second hand from a gen watch forum.

Looks good! Job well done indeed!

You have to buy the entire bezel assembly complete; I had to do the same for my 42mm 4th generation PO, but in my specific rep's case, the entire bezel fits without hassle:

    Ubi,

Your 4th gen franken is outstanding, I think I will attempt an orange one next!!

  5. Gen POs seem to go for $1600-1700 on TZ forums right now... sell the bracelet for $200-350 on ebay...

So for warranty + genuine + and working HE valve + cost of box and papers + Cal2500 movement + risk in reps, seems like its better to just save up for the gen in this case.

For me te upo with mods is perfet, I love the PO but not quite enough to spend

  6. Geat work Matt

The dial and hands fitted wihtout any kind of modding?

Non whatsoever, it seems the eta 2824 movement is exactly the same size as the genuine omega 2500, even the pegs on the back of the dial fit exactly into the holes in the movement. I couldnt believe I got the second hand on with the first attempt either!!

  7. UPO with factory double AR (really good!) and gen dial and hands. Also has rep rubber strap which is very close to the original (i can say that with conviction having owned a gen)

I did the mods myself and I must say im pretty happy with myself right now, and soooo glad the wait is over.

    Heres the finished product, ...

Hmm what shall my next project be....?

  8. I got a new UPO last month, I vcan confirm it has awesome double AR (easily as good as K2222's last stuff) mine also has the good pearl my only complaint is that it is a little too green in colour, but i can live with it.

I was all for buying a gen crystal but the double AR is so good, I will leave it ust as it is.

I attempt to install gen dial and hands today!!!

    Matt

  9. just need a confirmation from the bros here:

Gen crystal should fit UPO with no issue at all?

any minor modding needs to be done or is it a perfect fit?

    thanks :)

The gen crystal fits just fine so long as you dont have the silix upo (the case is slightly smaller on the silix).

Theres a good tutorial over on the geek about installing the crystal, dial hands etc.

  10. Out of the box the UPO is pretty darn good.

My problem has always been that I focus on the bits I know are 'giveaways' such as the dial/hands lume, bezel insert.

The best quality of a rep (and probably the reason why watch companies aren't intent on closing rep factories) is that it makes you want the gen.

The beauty of the planet ocean is that it comes in different colour options, what better way to have both is to have a gen in your favourite colour and a rep in your second choice, best of both worlds, go for it.

  11. Maxim,

Thanks for that, to be honest i like the brushed version but was put off by the datewheel, caseback and most importantly to me the size of the chrono pushers in ROLEXMANs review.

Could you confirm that the one you got from PT had accurate sized pushers an a better looking datewheel?

Also, I know its probably the lighting but the lume dots on the outside of he dial look a little 'yellowish',

    Thanks again,

    Matt

  12. I currently dont own a rep and after much contemplation and deliberation have decided my next will be the tag link chronograph with black dial. (always exciting when choosing your next watch isnt i?)

Im still undecided whether to go for the older model with brushed bezel or the newer polished bezel model.

Could you post me some pics/comments you have about your watches including when and where you got them from, inaccuracies you may have noticed, what do you like about this watch, what dont you like etc? Have you had any mods - double AR, datewheel etc?

Having studied By Tors review amongst others it seems that there is some difference in the size of the chrono pushers, obviously I am after the most accurate version whichever style that would be.

Please help me out so I can enjoy my return to the world of replica wristwatches!

    In much anticipation........

  13. Thanks! You actually made me doing this by myself... and what should I say, it worked! It is a real [censored] to remove, but I managed to do so without doing any damage to the watch. The Gen bezel snapped on like a charm, what convinces me that it is only due to the Rep bezel's poor quality that it comes off so hard. If this were a Gen watch, I would have shat my pants!

The Gen bezel does not only look better (the perl is centered, its frame is half as narrow, it even got a tiny clear cover over the lume), but even the snapping when turning it around sounds better :) Also it is clearly machined in a much better way than the Rep bezel.

Thanks for all who contributed - you know who you are :)

    Oliver,

It looks great, well worth the wait I think! Easily the best mod you can do on any omega rep.

All the best, wear it well.

    Matt
