I've been working to get a 16800 franken finished. Gen parts are: long cornet dial, crystal, crown/tube, DW, insert and clasp, so it's a serious franken. I started down the road of using a yuki movement because I didn't want to clip the dial feet of the gen dial. Should I worry about that- or just do it and install an ETA?
the gen 16613 will have various shades. I've owned the gen twice and had had a fairly dark blue- while one had a definite purple tint. Because of the variation I don't think you'll have a problem pulling off a dial with distinct color.
The indices of your dial look a little off however. They appear thicker than normal.
I've owned many gens and have had a few really cool pieces, but I've never owned a genuine daytona. I've always loved the classic look and I've enjoyed seeing some fantastic frankens here.
So, I just pulled the trigger on a parts package for my daytona build. I've got a phong case, gen pushers, gen crystal. I'm on the look-out for a movement and dial. My case is an "N" serial, and I'm going to build a white dial version: all gen except for the mid-case and movement.
Wish me luck!
i've got a gen dw im installing on a 16800 build. I have no problem using an ETA- i'd prefer it- but what can be done to get the gen DW to work? Or- other solutions?
"sorry- I agree that it's reasonable to expect a manufactured product not be broken when received by the buyer. I'll split the cost of a new movement with you".
Just an FYI regarding my experience. I purchased a yuki 3135 and sent it to a member for servicing. He tore down the movement and found in his words:
There's broken jewels, jewel springs that are broken, its a mess.
I requested yuki send a new movment- and they asked that I send the first one back prior to them shipping out a replacement. The movement is in pieces, so asking to have a dead movement reassembled seems a really bad use of time. I'm not sure what to do.
I'm guessing $5,500- $6,000 or so to build the watch- assuming gen dial/hands, gen pushers/crown, gen crystal, gen bracelet- modified movement. Does that sound about right for parts?
I was offered a 'T' serial for just under 10k last week. I'm thinking it might be easier to just buy the watch, but it is fun trying to find all the pieces.
Anybody have a gen mid-case that they would consider selling (I can dream right?)
thinking about taking the plunge and building a white dial zenith daytona. Obviously dial and hands will be genuine- along with the zenith movement. I'm curious if anyone has opinions: where should i get the case?
I bought a dial from Ephry73 (gen matte 16800!) and I would like to connect with PBdad and see if he can do a little work on the dial- but he can't receive PM's. Anybody know- is he still accepting work? How can I get in touch with him?
Thanks!
E- as you know I'm entering the 16800 family with a gen dial matte version of the 16800 (thanks for the dial!).
I'm going to add a yuki 3135 and gen date wheel for my movement. Where should I get the movement serviced?
topoky has a 93150 for sale now in the sales section.
I've also purchased from Steve (http://www.mulhollandtime.com/). He was great- I asked him to find me a beater 93150 and he had one within 2 weeks.
