  1. You can use sandpaper also, no problemo ;)

Take CG off, take GC pinion off also if you like perfect final result.

Put 800 or 600 sandpaper on your desk, put CG on sandpaper, press it down hard ( point is that your CG will not moving up and down only forward and backwards) and move CG with you finger (s) forward and back, long sweeps, not short ones. Result will be as gen ones. Steady hands are needed. If needed you can do one final sweep with nr 1000 sandpaper also or slightly with scotch brite.

Usual problems are with this technique:

-stripes on GC surface are not straight and even - moving direction was not right or sweeps were not long enough.

-CG edged are slightly rounded- you did not press CG on sandpaper well ( equable)enough. It was moving up and down slightly.

PS) less sanding and shaping is always better then more. Check always CG surface after every sweep.

My 040 GC back side was done like that and I am happy with result, sorry don`t have any good picture but here it is:

  2. :thumbsupsmileyanim: Very nice aging job.

I really like EGI`S... I know here on RWG we don`t have very much EGI fan`s.

My own EGI project is still as it was a month and half ago,was no time unfortunately for this project. But hopefully soon I will finish it. :yu:

  3. The new 187 is an awesome watch. Seems like the lume has always been an issue, but it can be easily remedied. Those of us who bought them now can have the dealer fix them or we can get them relumed...........

We are talking of :watch 435 usd+ reluming ~150 usd, overall 585 usd rep,and if you like to do servicing+ 200 more.

All together 785usd rep :yu::g: . It is a good rep indeed, but for most of us " all together price" will be probably too expensive.

New "free" lume from factory, we still will not know, will that "new" lume last. Hopefully it will

........... Rep watches have come a long way in the past 5 years.

and so are the price`s also.... ;)8)

I will wait for V2 :fixed lume and date pusher stem. :p;)

  4. Wow, this is magnificent project.I like it a lot :Jumpy: :Jumpy: :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Only why did you not polish CP? I know this is swiss 6497 but even S6497 will not have flattened polished CP from factory as gen Pam will have. This is so small work to do, comparing with that what is already done.

  5. I resetted the hands. i found it best to set at 12 like normal but because the minute hands covers the hour it can be slightly off. It needed to be checked around the dial. I used the end of the sausage markers and point of the hands to get it spot on................

............And as Ebzen said (elsewhere). Necessity makes you grow a pair. It's also the mother of invention. So here's my panerai "custom non-marring handtool" (my pressers dont have a hole large enough)

    handtool.jpg

    Thanks again all :)

I usually install hands at 6 o`clock position. You can check at once that they are lined correctly. If 6 o´clock placement is ok all other positions are ok also. B)

Hand made "non- marring handtool"- I like it, I will replicate one for myself probably :D

So far I did use two toothpicks wrapped to thin film, they did the job perfectly also.

  6. Super work :thumbsupsmileyanim: , I know how easy is ruin H factory "powder coated" hands black paint surface. And second hand reinstall is always pain:)

But if you do it by yourself, you can always be 100% sure, that dial is cleaned and under sapphire is no dust.

  7. I am probably slightly grazy, if I will find a very nice rep, high quality surface finishing, good sapphire, very gen like watch etc. and I open then case back.... and inside case finishing is not so good or poor it disturb me a lot 8)=@:g: . I usually will thinking of selling that watch then.

Basically nobody does not see how it looks inside and if outside finishing is perfect why it disturbs me so much...don`t know. :g: Am I the only one who will seek perfection?

  8. My 2cents:

Before you buy a watch so equipped, ask yourself if you'd spend an extra $200.00 up front for it...

so that $275.00 rep suddenly becomes a $475.00 rep!!...

Yes I am agree but you don`t have to pay at once 475$, It is more easy to spend 275 and after a few month, when you really decided to keep it spend 200 more.

If you have 4-5 watch, 2-3 of them with 7750 mov., you can deal with service cost. When 20+ watch then yes...not a point probably.

After servicing you have a very good watch for 5-...years. If once decent servicing is done for movement I don`t see point to do it after 5 again, next service will be done whan watch movement will not working correctly, not before. If once mov. is lubricated-controlled correctly it will not die so easily.

To be honest, I had a few watch ( and still have two)with A7750 movement and most of them were not working properly at some point. So if you decided to go with A775x mov. you better think -keep it and service or just keep it and use till it stops. With second option you will lose $ anyway. Almost all rep movement need servicing, so no matter do your watch has A7750, 6497 etc, if you really like it very much( and only then), servicing is needed. You don`t have to service it but if watch will stop in the end what will you do? Major loss if you try to sell it as non working , bigger bill if you like to service it then( some parts need to be changed already then).

BTW If something will bother you on your rep: dial color, hands set finishing, case finishing etc. don`t spend extra $ for service, you will sell it at the end probably anyway. Servicing will have point only then when you 100% like watch as it is and you will like to wear it after 5 year also. And think about watchmaker also, cheapest is always not he best.

  9. Thats my watch. The watch never showed any moisture issues..I wore in to the pool once and other than that stayed out of the water. So the problem has nothing to do with moisture. The month or so I had the watch I spent several weeks on vacation mostly at the beach so the watch saw plently of sunlight. The issue must be caused by heat and or UV light. Certain organic pigments can be very UV sensitive and color can just leave the system over time. I wont reveal the dealer since he has been very helpful in addressing this problem. This watch I am sure comes from one factory so I assume everyone will see this issue at some point in time.

So now we have two problem with 187- date pusher ( will broke soon or later ) and lume, lume will turn grey...Not good

I still like the 187, if price was lover I already had it B)
