  1. I think the actual stem itself might be OK. If I understand the composition of the stem-crown make up, there's the stem, the winding crown mechanism that attaches to the stem, and then the crown itself that attaches to that winder. I believe the crown winder mechanism the crown was attached to is torqued so tight into the crown tube that I wound up unscrewing the crown itself while the rest of the mechanism is frozen in the tube. A spring that was underneath the crown popped out when the crown came off. I doubt trying to put it all back on will help because I would still be stuck with frozen crown mechanism. I'm waiting on the dealer and I'm in touch with someone who can probably repair.

  2. No credit cards or pp. Red flag #1. Prices too good to be true, red flag #2. Can't find any users testimonials via Google...not exactly good or bad. If it helps, here's the domain registrant's address:

Also, domain was created 1/17/2006. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a new business, but it's definitely a brand spankin' new website. Personally, I wouldn't buy unless someone who's reputable posts about a good transaction they had with them.

Yes, I'd be extremely cautious. When I looked at that site I couldn't help but notice the description style seemed verty similar to Ebay's. I wonder if that's where the photos came from too. Hmm.

  3. Thanks...the URL is actually universaldials.net

It's not for a franken datejust - I'm just very disappointed with the dial I got on my datejust rep and want to swap it out for something of better quality.

Hmm..perhaps over time I might consider doing something similar. Are you sure the gen dial is going to fit a rep case? I thought I read about mods like gluing and making shims might be necessary.

  4. Wow, looks like the stem was stuck inside the movement and when you twisted to loosen, it just broke.

You'll probably need to open the movement to get rid of any piece of stem still inside, and then you'll need a replacement crown with stem.

Also better figure out why the stem wouldn't turn in the movement - maybe something else is wrong that was preventing the winding.

Thanks. That makes sense. Sounds like perhaps I have defective stem. Once I got the crown loose, it wouldn't turn anything in the watch before it fell off. I wonder if the whole thing got jolted. As we speak, the watch is running.

Hope this all gets resolved. Got to look at the positve side of this and consider it an interesting horological learning experience.

  5. I just got a new DD and when it opened it, the crown was torqued so tight it was literally impossible to budge. After carefully sitting down I was able to loosen it to get moving with a delicate pair of pliers and a piece of ribbon wedged between so as to not mar the crown. That worked, the crown moved but when I went to adjust the time it popped off along with the spring underneath. mad.gif sad.gif

The thing is brand new, not even out of the plastic. I'm presently feeling disheartened.

I really hope someone can help me out. I have a fairly decent collection of small handtools. I believe I'm going to have to open the back, maybe remove the mvt , in effort to reatach the sping and then the crown.

I immediately alerted the dealer, hopefully everything will turn out OK on either end. Below is a photo of the watch in it's present state. I hope you can make out both the crown and spring.

I'm good at battery changes and informal dismantles so if anyone can guide me through a possible repair, I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys!
