I've recently had trouble with one of the new dealers who swears up and down the watches go through multiple rounds of QC. He supposedly sends 1 watch, via some cheap shipping method, and it never arrives. After 15-20 days I'm told if I want him to send a replacement I have to pay $25 more for EMS shipping. I do this. So now I've paid for shipping twice and for the watch once. The 2nd watch arrives, it's the worst watch I've ever seen, with multiple different QC issues noticeable within 5 seconds (slanted text, all the hour markers are misaligned, cyclops crooked, etc). So then I'm expected to send this watch back to China, at my cost (so this will be my third shipping I paid for), and then wait for another watch?? It's been almost two months now, no watch. lol.
I check the for-sale threads daily because I really only feel safe buying from members now.
which dealer did you get it from?
-
he was asking about the roadseter GMT specifically which does not come gen in black dial.
oopps- my bad.
-
yeah i just noticed that. i meant cartier's official site.
there is a black (large at least) gen roadster and i think chrono also.
i just got a black roadster with red/green lumes from josh. i think they made that before but
perhaps they stopped.
btw- the watch is very cool. i posted something yesterday but nobody read it.
i don't care if they don't make it anymore.

I've got to give Josh credit again. Yesterday I received a large roadster w/ black dial &
green numbers. The watch is truly awesome, not just for the price which is a bargain.
In fact, i also got a gen Tag Aquaracer this week (quartz) and the qc on the Cartier is just as good!
current collection:
gens- 3 rolex (2dj & gmt tt- all resized models); breitling navitimer; franck mueller casablanca; b-m rivera; pam 40mm
daniel richard chrono; jacques lemans chrono; g-p ferrari; movado; tag aquaracer; coach chrono; montblanc timewalker
reps- 10 assorted rolex; 2 glasshute; pp chrono; roadster;pam chrono; breitling chrono evo;brequet chrono
obviously i'm quite hooked.
one day i'll learn how to take pix!

Sure the gold in the reps is worth around 120 US$ to what PT has calculated - that used to be one of his arguments - why would they sell plated stuff if the real gold amount is so little it doesn't cost so much. I tell you - those reps don't cost 200$ wholesale in China, so the full gold would hit the price considerably and with percentual markup, those watches would be $$$ish.
It's not a matter of wearing off, as some are dual layer gold links which will most likely never wear off. I bet that the Chinese industry has developed many ways to counterfeit gold or jewellry, they are not stupid, their developments are of excellent nature. It's easy to create a base 5-9Carat gold link and plating over it with 14-18K. Wonder what comes next. Some sort of heavy metal alloy that looks like gold but is not. And is poisonous for your wrist.
Genuine TT Rolexes are btw indeed hollow midlinked and have 18K links, not 14K. Clasp is plated as said beore and the endlinks are a three part costruction.
I have a TT Daytona from one of the scam sites that i bought 1 1/2 years ago. it tested out @ 10-12kt with a scratch
test. i'm sure the bezel is plated. ideal and the rest of these sites claim solid bezels and crowns!

I have no idea... it's really not to my taste.
Of course that's just my opinion.
They are here and pretty bad. They sell @ about $100. ($35k for gen)
I even think josh or the other guys have them. Nobody recommends them

welome; i'm a newbie around here too. i got the bug for awhile already (35 reps & gens).
at least you're not alone, its kinda like a.a. in that regard.

I'm a newbie to this forum but an avid collector of gens & reps (mostly rolex).
I just wanted to give kudos to Josh for this new 2 tone chronomat evo. Its quite a
wristful! feels as heavy as a gen, with a great face and logo. Also, I saved a ton of dough compared to those rip off
dealers i was using, like Best Swiss. I also ordered a Rolle DJ.
Glad I found you guys- I thought I was the only nut interested in this stuff.

Stick with our recommended dealers brotha !!!! Sorry to hear about your experience though, sucks hard. Personally I would have recommended you save your sheckles up and buy the real thing. Between the amount you spent on the one you were screwed on and the others you have ordered you were more than half way to a really nice newer pre-owned genuine DJ. But Josh, Silix, Angus and my personal fave Andrew won't let you down. Andrew and Angus especially answer all my emails (no matter how dopey they may be
) in a very timely fashion and they each stand behind their products !!
Regardless welcome to our little family and listen to Victoria she is our unofficial official goodwill ambassador and bastion of excellent advice !!!!!!
I actually have 3 gen rolexes- 2 djs & a new gmt. plus 8-9 fakes. my collection is nearly 50/50 gen & rep.
i have dealt with these big swiss 'grade 1 ' dealers and have some very nice pieces. they are way overpriced but do mostly have eta
movements. they all lie about the solid gold 2 tones and the swiss chrono movements!
thanks for your interest- i'm so happy i found this group. I thought i was the only crazy guy interested in these reps!
-
Thanks for your honesty Victoria. Of course I know you're right.
It really bugs me when i get ripped off like that. (I paid $500-'wholesale')
I just joined the forum this week. The trouble is when you do searches; the companies like Ideal, Bestswiss,
Go -Replicas, etc. are the first to come up. I never heard of Josh or the other dealers here before.
The other guys seem to be behind the replica review sites. For example, the Replica Billboard seems
to be a front for Besswiss.

I know I must sound very naive, but are there any regulations in
cyberspace or is it like the wild west. If I used a cc i guess it would be a different story.
-
It was a rep. How about the better business bureau?
It may still arrive, but if not I guess there's nothing I can do.
I wish I knew about you guys before- I just ordered 2 watches from Josh
-
Sorry to hear this.
Which site was it?
Name and shame
Bestswiss.com

I am an avid collector both gen and rep. I recently ordered a Datejust online, from a well known overhyped website.
It may have been a mistake, but I paid cash via wire. It is now more than 2 months since the order and no watch.
To make things worse, the dealer got very angry when I called him on this and broke off contact with me.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Are there any regulatory agencies that overlook internet purchases.
I would appreciate any help.

i vote for airking too. if its at least 36mm. the new gens are bigger as are
the whole line. (see new gmt-ceramic). i think that's the smallest that a guy
can wear nowadays. almost everything is like 44mm and up!
i still can't get used to rollies on a leather band. maybe a daytona?
good luck
