  1. Thanks I really appreciate the comments from the forum members - I may be considered a newbie, but I'm not stupid I have several gens but because that can become (very) expensive I was looking forward to building a nice collection of reps and still intend to do so. Maybe the 300 bucks is the cost of research, be it the hard way, as to where (and who) I should spend my money in the rep business. Thanks again.
  2. I understand your point of view and appreciate you input, maybe the label will show that the 'drop shipper' made a mistake but according to the EMS it didn't even leave customs, it went staight from there back to 'sender' Andrew has made it very clear that if the package came back and I still wanted it there would be additional shipping charges. To me thats just throwing good money after bad. The Latin term 'Buyer Beware' seems to come to mind........... Once again thanks for your replies and suggestions.
  3. Appreciate your comments - but I'm out close to $300 bucks - that money would have been better spent saving up for a gen...........
  4. All shipping information was correct and as stated on 'trustys' order confirmation. 'Trusty' emailed me back, he is basically saying that if they come back to him he will charge me an extra shipping charge to send them back again. Not willing to take a chance so I told him to forget it. Not happy with my first ever rep purchase Lesson learned I guess. Thanks for for trying to offer a suggestion Freddy Appreciate it.
  5. I am located in Canada - my first purchase from Andrew when tracked on EMS shows item leaving customs and being returned to sender. Canada Postal Service have no idea why and suggested I get the sender to start a trace. Has this ever happened to anyone else on the forum.
  6. This thread is making me hungry
  7. Mercantile Trading could be interesting given it's location. I'm down that way on Saturday, I'll check it out.
  8. New to the forum I was wondering how do most members store or display their collection. Even my 'gens' right now are just sitting in a draw, my suits and ties are displayed better in my closet than my watches and I believe I have more money tied up in the watches With watches on order and a few on my wish list how do I display them - are there storage/display boxes you can buy? Pics would be nice so as to get some ideas.
  9. I'm new to the forum as well and have done some buying from dealers. My first instinct was to go with the recommendation of the people on this site. They have been at this a lot longer so it was easy to make a decision after doing some research. Although it does appear that 'getting what you pay for' does apply with the dealers that appear on this site my main concern was that I not only get a half decent watch but that my well earned cash wasn't going to go off in to 'the great internet fraud bank in the sky' I recently became a 'paid member' and as has been mentioned a whole new world of information has become available. Have i been here for years? nope - neither have I accumulated a vast collection of rep's (yet) but somewhere here I read. Pick your dealer - then pick your watch. I maybe wrong but it seems to have worked well for me given my short exposure to this 'hobby'
  10. Hi people - I'm Pete and new to the forum, I live in Aurora just north of Toronto Canada My other obsession is flyin kites competitively all around North America and the world. I have been cruising RWG for about 3 weeks and felt given that if I have found a way to save $$$thousands to feed my habit I should step up to the plate a pay my dues. Current collection of GENS is small but have already ordered from a 'trusted' dealer to get my rep collection going. Gens are: Breitling SuperOcean TAG SLR 2000 TAG FI Chrono (my weekend beater) KITERPETE
  11. I'm a new supporter - when I figure out how to post pictures - I will...........
  12. You mean this obsession gets worse..... I've been drooling over watches for weeks now, don't tell me the same thing happens with straps............ KiterPete
  13. While I wait for my first delivery from a 'trusted' dealer (I have heard I have to be patient) I have been scanning the forum for what my next watch should be. Even though I have been a 'steel band' kinda guy with the GENS that I have a move towards leather seems due. I'm looking for RWG forum members to help me with suggestions for my first PAM, probably from the same 'trusted' dealer that has given me great communication on my first buy. My current watches have always been on the shinny side, I enjoy sitting at home polishing my collection. So my wish list for a PAM would be: Hand Wind Polished Stainless Case Tan Leather Strap Hope I'm not being too picky - but any help as to what would be the best / first PAM should be would be greatly appreciated. KITERPETE PS: If I buy a higher priced rep with a leather strap, is the strap a keeper or does it always have to be replaced with a better quality?
  14. Just a few miles north of Toronto here, just about had enough of the snow this year. Kiter
  15. Excellent Thx - looks great on my new 24"
  16. Opps - Right, grammatical error there......... Watch choices would be: Panerais IWC Pilot/Railmaster/FA Jones Andrew recommends the Swiss Unitas in the panerais, not mistrusting his expertise just looking for opinions on all three movements. KiterPete
  17. New to RWG and having only placed one order with Andrew I'm now looking to buy a manual wind watch, either basic or chrono. Based on what I have researched here it seems the (best) choices for movements are: Swiss Unitas with Swan Neck Lemania ETA 6497-1 Can someone please me with the pros and con's of these movements. Appreciate any help. Pete KiterPete
  18. I have been trying on and off most of the afternoon - came home and was able to get on Andrews site but got kicked off when I tried to do a search, that was around 5:30 pm EST. KITERPETE
