  1. Just to continue the theme, I have just received a nice clean 17014 case set, with back and tube...now the question...to do a new build? sell? or swap? Who knows!
  2. Sorry JMB I missed the post, I used a MIYOTA 2115 as the date wheel fits the original 29.5mm Oysterquartz dial! I still have your Tudor 17014 build and stil enjoying it thanks!
  3. Another member contacted me wondering what happened to the OQ project...so here is the update. After much searching and patience on the bay I managed to find an extremely rare genuine cobalt blue, starburst texture OQ dial with the correct chronometer markings (as the case and strap date from the mid-late 80's) this was fitted with a miyota movement which is the correct ligne and matched the date window perfectly with a very passable font. (found thanks to a previous OQ franken project on here being very informative!) Finished with the correct Clarks sapphire crystal. The only drawbacks are the miyota movement has a rare hand stack size so I could only source a second hand which is slightly too short and the dial has a little age related foxing which is noticeable in a macro photograph but still looks superb on the wrist in the sun!
  4. I have been working on this for sometime. Having nabbed a oysterquartz case on ebay at a sensible price...I waited and hunted for a matching bracelet and got one from Germany total cost £400 approx $600. Because the oysterquartz dial is a very rare 28.5mm I delayed getting one and fitted a miyota quartz in with a replica dial...however the date wheel was badly misaligned. So this evening with the benefit of a few large whiskies and an old budget Milgauss replica that had been sitting in my spares box I decided to have a go at merging the two together. By complete fluke the smooth bezel and the non-date saphire crystal fitted, and so below I present the Osyterquartz Milgauss...a true fantasy original...and bar the floors with the dial...I think it is a nice looking watch!
  5. Just a though if anyone has a one of the old terrible quartz datejust replicas that they want to sell...please let me know!
  6. Yes the automatic is a good option although the dials are different as the auto version has an additional ring. The proper dial diameter is 28.5mm but a normal datejust movement should fit! I am just a bit useless at the practical side! I am lucky enough to own one of JMB's oyster quartz projects and it is fitted with an eta with standard datejust dial.
  7. Hi everyone I need help with my oysterquartz 17000 franken project. I have managed to collect an original case and strap over the last couple of months and have put together a miyota quartz movement with a replica face. As you will see from the picture I am rubbish at this! Dial is misaligned and at an angle to the case, incorrect hand set, date wheel position does not match the dial date aperture (although would match the orignal oysterquartz dial) What I am looking for is someone (preferably in the UK) who has the necessary skill to implant a movement, quartz or auto, in to this case to finish the project properly! Any ideas for anyone trust worthy who can do this for a sensible price would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
  8. Ok so the weekend passes and I have managed to ruin a datejust doner I had lying around! Can anyone suggest a member or 'supplier' who can create this frankedn for me, obviously willing to pay sensible price. Many thanks!
  9. Thanks guys, I have managed to acertain the tube is 24-6020 and the crown is 24-600 and the crystal is 25-295c. Thanks Alligoat and omgiv, your information is much appreciated! I am intending to put it on leather initially then keep an eye on the bay for a bracelet. I too had a 17000 about 10 years ago and let it go in a trade but have always loved the shape...it has an air of Gerald Gentas 70's models such as the AP RO and the IWC ingenieur. I am in two mind on whether to put an automatic or quartz movement in. Anyway thanks again guy for your help!
  10. Thanks MD2020...I shall get my researching head on and check!
  11. Hi guys Huge fan of the oyster quartz here to the point where I am lucky enough to own one of JMB's scratch builds but when the bay offered up a nice clean 17000 case a few weeks ago I had to make it mine. Now the problem, the last time I attempted a build I practically destroyed the world along with a number of very useful movements and as I can not find a data sheet for the 17000 I am probably in even more trouble. I would welcome anyone input in terms of which tube, crystal and bezel parts numbers would be appropriate and then more importantly an easy way source and install a datejust dialed movement in! If anyone, preferably UK based, could sell me a dialed movement that I can just slot in I am more than happy to pay a sensible price. Any help, comments welcome, thanks guys!
  12. Here we go chaps, Probably the worst fake on fleabay ever! http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-PERPETUAL-OYSTER-LADIES-WATCH-QUARTZ-/380239512594?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Wristwatches&hash=item58880a8412
  13. Truely awesome...I am a true Oyster Quartz fan...from a design point of view...before we get started on the old quartz / mechanical debate...The Oysterquartz has a very Gerald Genta stle design. Excellent...well done...when can I order mine!
  14. Excellent post, I am a huge fan of the Oysterquartz and have been looking for one, at the right price, for sometime. However whilst on my voyage to find such a beast I came accross another little gem. Check out my thread to see the similarities with the benefit of a automatic movement! of by the way...awesome example JoJo
  15. Hi everyone! Over the years I have been searching for an Oyster Quartz for some time as I have always felt it exhiibits true Gerald Genta Seventies design. Being budget concious I was looking for a project or a bragain! However whilst on ebay the other day I came accross a rare marvel, I was looking for a Tudor Ranger which as we all know, exhibits much of the design facets of the Expolorer. Anyway by the by I came accross a Oyster Prince two tone which really confused me...after some research it turned out to be the civilian version of Ranger II and was in a very reare congiursation on gold bezel, which I believe to be real and gold plated centre links (one has light bubbling there fore no doubt on that one) The integrated bracelet is extremely solid with some nice chamfering on the edges. What intrigued me most was the use of the Oysterquartz crown, which is much lower profile than the standard oyster. Also of interest in the dial configuration, which mimmics the 1530 oysterquartz with the exception of slightly higher lume markings, which sadly are now somewhat dull because of age. The bracelt is seriel numbered with deep clean engraving and the case has a model number engraved 9101/1, obviously the case back is signed rolex design. The clasp is rolex signed on interior and tudor shield signed on the top, which from my reseach appears spot on. I date this as a later example of this watch around the mid to late 1980's and for a watch of it's age it is in supurb condition with the lens almost unmarked and the braclet still very tight. All in all I thought i'd see what you guys think of this very rare Tudor design, i'm chuffed with it and as far as keeping time goes the custom built Tudor 25 jewel ETA movement keeps excellent time gaining just 2 seconds a dat, far better than either of my rolexes! I will try to post more pics...but please excuse the camera work as my macro sensor seems to have gone to lunch. Love to know any opinions or information regarding this awesome design!
  16. Having come across excelwatch.com on another post I decided to take a look at what they had to offer. Now we all know many sites use pictures of 'originals' as there main pics, and we all know this does not bode well. But being an eternal opptomist I checked out there selctions and notices an Oysterquartz hiding in the Rolex section...now this is a very rare rep of an excellent watch. I decided to push my luck and emailed them for furth pictures of this lesser spotted beauty. Quite to my surprise the reply was quick and 7 pictures were attached. 7 pictures...4 different watches and 2 were'nt even oysterquartz models but datejust's! I thought i'd push my luck and request clarification...more pictures arrived, 7 pictures...all from second hand dealers websites...I emailed them back with links to the pictures they had used with the simple phrase 'BUSTED! and strangley haven't heard from them since...SO MY ADVICE...BE VERY CAREFULL OF THIS SITE...IT SMELLS WORSE THAN A 5 YEAR OLD STILTON! I would love to know if anyone does come across an oysterquartz replica, and obviously if anyone has any good experiences with this site feel free to contradict me! Original sources of the pictures they sent me http://www.theoldwatchshop.com/rolpics/Dscn3586.jpg http://www.timeandgems.com/zoomify.asp?catalogid=99&img=assets/images/watches/Datejust_Mens/2_Tone-Oyster_Quartz/rmdj2t031/rmquartz70809_band.jpg
  17. Have been collecting for some 10 years..on and off..wallet allowing! Indeed good to see one of the guys I have purchased from over the years on here Narika.(I think that's his nickname) on here. I bought several watches from him..and indeed some pens from his old CQout days. All I can say. if you're in the UK and are a little hesitant about customs etc..his watches and service are very good! (his site is on the traders section of the links page) I am currently looking for an oysterquartz model if any one has any thoughts? any version bar the president...also a great passion for corum..but only up to the 44mm. Nice to be here!
