  1. nice watch.... *sign*... I knew a rep was coming out for this sooner or later.

the only flaw i can phsically see is the blue chronograph hand's are way too light. it almost looks turquiose. The gen is really dark metallic blue.

And are the numerals applied? it looks like it from the photos. the gen numerals are raised from the dial.

  2. I am afraid the dials may be a bit too shiny... but I still love them.

I think I prefer the non-panda version... wish they could make a blue handed version of it.... like this one:

thats a nice looking watch.... looks just like mine!! :) here are the rest of my photos. I had both the gold hands and blue hands version. I quality of this watch is rediculously good and could never be replicated. I have so many pictures.... these are just a few I have on my server.

  3. of course you guys can tell the difference. thats cause you already know what to look for. the average person will not know what to look for and cannot remember every single detail of a watch. Especially if they never owned it and only seen the watch a couple times in person or just photos.

I'm a IWC collector, and let me tell you..... the FA Jones is a very good rep that would fool 99% of the people out there that don't know there is a rep, don't own the watch but know what the FA Jones is. Besides, there are only 4500 FA Jones in existence. The chances of running into a FA Jones owner is not very good.

  4. To me, the numerals and the subdial look overprinted on all these watches: the font is too bold.

It still looks a little too fake to me- I'll wait for a better dial.

I'll probably have to wait forever.

I brought the rep to my IWC AD and compared the two (I wasn't shy about it because I've already purchased 4 IWC's from them)

The dial and font from the original and the rep is almost identical. Unless you hold it right next to a gen, there is absolutely no possible way that anyone can spot the differences (even on the movement... unless you're a rep collector) Even the dealers couldn't tell it was a fake unless it was compared side by side.

The average person wouldn't know what to spot as a rep or gen. Most people probably never seen one in person, especially for a watch that only 4500 units were produced. So how are they gonna know it's a rep or gen? Don't get me wrong, there are visible differences. It just won't be noticeable to the average person.

  5. Watches Internation VII is $16.50 and Grand Complications II is $15.75, respectively at Amazon.

These are great books. I usually "barrow" them at Borders and devour their contents over an Americano. My favorite is the Wristwach Annual. I usually buy that one.

hmmm.... I guess Amazon is the way to go... cause I got mine at Barnes & Noble for retail price

  6. I have both of those books from last year. They're not cheap, around $40 - $50 US.

If you want a catalog full of watches, this is for you. It's not really useful if you want to read up to date articles and stuff.

It just has a brief one or two page background of the watch company and shows all the watches new for that year. If you want a cheap alternative, for $13, pick up WatchTime's Annual buyers guide!

  7. @sye46 - Very nice straps! Are those straps you have the genesis IIs? I thought they don't make them in 22mm. Or are they custom made? I have been eyeing them for a long time.

thanks! my 3714 uses 20mm straps. i'm using a DeBeers strap for the FA Jones.

  8. After comparing to gen, I noticed, that the engraving on the backside isn't as proper as it should be for a $10k-watch...so this will be easily spotted I think. What do you think about that "flaw".

In general: great watch from a great dealer....usually not a second to think about.

What kind of movement is it? Swiss?

if the rep looks anything like the photos, there is no way anyone can spot its a fake without having a gen to compare it to side by side. yes, there are markings that aren't perfect, but there are so many markings on the movement that it makes it hard to spot.

  9. @cwai02 - lets just forget about the loser and move on and enjoy the watch mate, its not worth getting all worked up for it.

Hmm... I was thinking, I need a strap... a nice 22mm gator to go with this watch. What do you guys reckon? A honey brown (aka oem colour)? Darker brown, Red brown or black?

Is it just me or does a black gator never really show off the grain as well as a red brown or a honey brown.

    Thanks

I buy all my straps at Lonestar watches. These deBeer straps are only $25 and they're really nice! I already have 2!

Also, if you ever want to buy a really nice genuine alligator strap, you can't go wrong with the Genesis II

  10. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT???

Pocket watches lose soooooooooo much of it's value when the movement is marriaged with another case. Also, it has sentimental value from you grandfather, don't you want to keep it intact for years to come? You can always buy another rep panerai, but not a vintage hand-me-down watch from your grandfather.

I was in the market for a couple IWC pocket watches, and my research shows that once the original movement and the case are seperated, its worth almost nothing.

  11. No it isn't... It's so the second-hand is closer to the dial to eliminate parallax errors on the stopwatch. The chrono second hand cleverly uses the 8-beats a second to make quarter-second ticks. The second-hand needs raising to get past the subdials and bending at the end to get back to the dial height.

The bend isn't an illusion, it's a feature. Here are some pretty pics for your amusement.

thanks... i guess i was wrong all along... i learn something new everyday.

  12. My GST has a flat crystal.

really? the dome shape is the inside of the crystal. look at the minute and second hands.... are they kind of bent? (look from an angle)

that is because the crystal is domed.

  13. Nick Lachey got a Jacob & co. diamond watch from Jessica for his birthday a few years ago..... I wonder what nick did with it.

And Leonardo DiCaprio is a avid JLC collector.. (he owns a Gyrotourbillon, Platinum Master Grand Reveil, Reverso Septantieme and a MC Geographic).... so I'm surprised he wore an Avenger.
