  1. I have one on the way from Tim/Fat Panda/Watchfinder (see the TDs list), the latest version of this appears stunning on the QC pics, I've owned several Nomos gens in the past, and I have a 20mm gen Cordovan waiting to go on it ... that's the trick IMO, you can order the gen strap direct from Nomos. The previous rep wasn't too bad for a cheapie but the new one looks like real quality (saphire, skeletonised rotor, decorated movement, correct looking dial spacing, blued hands ...) .. due in a few days, I'll report in when it arrives.
  2. Yes I'm pondering the gen as well as it's 'affordable' in the grand scheme of things. The strap took months to get, a mate connected with a Rolex dealer persuaded them to get it in - I think there are very few around for spare as most of the watches come with the camo strap in the box.
  3. After much looking I managed to acquire a gen camo strap for the Tudor Heritage Ranger. Really looks the business. I was about to send it off for AR until I realised the original doesn't have any. There really isn't much to give this watch away. Much better than the rather poor yellow leather bund that it comes with (apparently the gen bund is a bit of a stiff disappointment too).
  4. I'm having my old (can't remember where I got it, was years ago) Pam240 fettled at the minute. I contacted Davidsen for what I understood to be the best pam240 dial around (mine has a few issues, notably lume), but he's sold out. Any view on the best alternative ?

  6. I have to agree I got a Tudor Heritage Ranger which got through QC with hands not on properly ... Toro has gone out of his way to put it right even though he has been let down by the people he used to fix it. I will certainly buy again from him.
  7. Agree it looks far better on the black bund than on the mustard one supplied.
  8. Toro offered to put my new Tudor Ranger right, but should I really have the hassle, delay and risk of sending it back to China? Last time I sent something to China for repair (not a Toro watch can't remember who I bought it from) it came back with a fingerprint on the dial. I'm currently looking for a local fix.
  9. Had similar recently issue recently with Toro, mis-aligned hands. Not good. But also had issues in recent times with Puretime and Trusty (buggered up clasps, screws missing etc), and even had a buckle missing from a Davidsen order (though thankfully the watch itself was fine). I think it just goes with the territory these days - no-one seems bothered enough to care very much about anything. It wouldn't surprise me if one big warehouse was shipping stuff for the lot of them.
  10. Or a black Bund strap (forgot I had this in 22mm!). I like this.
  11. Well, mine arrived. A few immediate thoughts: 1) Size is pretty good - I would have preferred 42 or 43mm but this is a reasonable size on my 8in wrist. It actually wears bigger than you'd expect - see the comparison with the Panerai (41mm vs 44mm) and the optical illusion alongside the 42mm vintage Blancpain - theoretically bigger but the Blancpain wears much smaller than the Tudor. Probably not one for the thin-wristed. 2) The supplied strap is utter pants - it looks the part in the web pics, but up close it's cheap looking / cheap feeling leather, uncomfortable and a shade too short. Deployant clasp is razor sharp and 18mm at the clasp so can't really be used with standard 22mm straps which are usually either straight, or taper to 20mm. Fail. 3) The watch itself is lovely. Comparing to pics of the gen (not having one to hand ...) I can't fault it (could be my lack of attention to detail) but really - it looks fantastic. Lume seems modest, but par for the course by rep standards. Too much hassle to mod though as you'd have to do the numbers. One to live with. 4) Haven't checked timekeeping yet as it only arrived three hours ago. It came in less than a week from Toro with no issues. Movement winds just a little rough, screw down crown likewise isn't as smooth as I'm sure the gen is but it looks the part, sets accurately and feels very secure. Hands are great and overall the feeling is one of real satisfaction. I need to find a friend who has good relations with a Rolex/Tudor dealer and can source me a gen camouflage strap, that would be the business I think and all but indistinguishable from the gen. (Any takers here willing to nab me one?) Apologies for the pic quality, these are iPhone shots taken late this afternoon in poor light. Strap is an old Jurgens one from Germany that I've probably had for 15 years, seen duty on some cool pilot watches over the years.
  12. OK has anybody bought one of these? I quite fancy one (slightly overpriced though they are) but worry about the quality of the rep bund strap and the apparent difficulty in getting hold of a gen one. Also worry about the strap size as I generally need something larger than standard (by about 10-15mm). If anyone has bought one maybe they could put their hand up?
  13. You tell me ... but some sellers are paranoid. Only one who would actually ship to UK wanted $23 shipping on a $20 pouch. Crazy.
  14. Thanks guys. Tried the US ebay ones but they won't ship to the UK. So need to look to alternative sources.
  15. Edit - thought I'd bought one but 'import restrictions' mean I can't get it shipped to uk.
  16. No it was done by a watchmaker I know (who doesn't work on reps, unfortunately).
  17. (posted in main forum but it then occured to me that the knowledge on this might well be over here! I have my (deceased) father in law's (gen) 80s Datejust coming back shortly after a complete refurb sbortly and I'd like to package it up nicely as a gift for the wife to keep to remember him by, and possibly wear if it takes her fancy. Any thoughts on a source for a (presumably rep) period green service pouch? Would be overkill (and obviously fake) to stick it in a rep box.

  19. From what I've seen depends on the era you are comparing them to. Some were quite thick.
  20. Just pulled the trigger on the 95. Still pondering the new one but we'll see, hard to justify both.
  21. An original .... not a million miles away it has to be said
  22. Except it'simpossible to get hold of one these days (review is from 2014!)
