Where in the wide, wide world of sports did you get that dial? I'm putting together a vj23 6239 and I'd love to have something like that.
Very nicely done. Congrats.
In 1962, my Grandfather bowled a perfect game. Since it was in a league and since they did way cool stuff like this back in the day, he got a 14K ring (which my brother has) and this Omega. He gave it to me when I turned 18. It's one of my prized possessions. Keeps great time, though I don't wear it often. I may send it to Omega for a service, if they'll take it. The dial has the AMF logo on it and at the bottom it says "Automatic Pinspotters 300 Award."
One last cool fact: My Grandfather bowled his 300 game against a team that was captained by...my other Grandfather. And my parents had just gotten married (I came along a year later) when he rolled the 300.
Anyway, enjoy the pics. I love this watch.
I bought one like this for my genuine '61 5512 (it currently has a Rolex factory matte replacement dial which has been on it since I got the watch). I never put it on, however. The type is too big on 'em. Good quality dial, though. I paid about $200 for it. Not to hijack, but if anyone's looking for one, I have the gilt hand set as well. PM for pics.
Genuine ones are virtually impossible to find. If I had one on my 5512, the value would go from its current $4-6K to damn near $10k. Crazy.
If I had a gen 127, I'd sell now, or soon, and buy a vintage Daytona. That watch will always appreciate. I think the giganto watch trend has to end sometime, and when it does, Pannys like the 127 will take a hit. They'll always be worth a lot, no doubt, but they'll never match a 6263/6239/etc for value.
No offense, but it's just you.
Congrats on getting a watch for a good price that you're happy with, but anyone even remotely familiar with vintage Rollies could spot the errors from space. The Rolex font is almost hysterically large.
Sorry for the bluntness, but comments were asked for.
Wow, great timing on the question. I just put a Hirsch rally (squeezed a 20mm on it, no biggie) on my 6263. Makes for a great late 60's early 70's look. I'm going to order a Rollie buckle for it soon. Have a look.
Here's mine. Yes, it's a gen.
Hey, does anyone know where I can get a blue croc strap that looks like the gen? Mine just came with the bracelet and I want the croc or a blue Hirsch sport strap. Any help would be appreciated.
PLEEEEEEEESE get the font/logo right this time. I've been so close to pulling the trigger on these in the past. Seriously, I'm just looking for a reason to give you my money.
Oh, and a true pre-V case would be great, too.
Excellent start, though.
Joe,
Can you post some pics of their work? Especially anything in deep black, as the BR's are? A buddy of mine has a gen BR-03 and it's pretty dark. If the color is right, I'm in.
