  1. The date wheel overlay that came with the cartel 1655 I last used was 'stepped', and clipped into the date wheel on the DG3804B. It's the first I've seen like that. That made aligning my black/red printed sticker on the overlay really easy to do. The step in the overlay makes for better clearance and fewer hangups. I have the ETA 2846 in my first 6542 and in a 6204, and the DG3804B in my 1675 Cornino and my 2nd 6542, and the ETA 2836-2 in my 16710 and my 166710. I've had no 4th hand issues with any. I love `em all.
  2. I've yet to see a DG3804B that the GMT hand was not independently settable. Maybe try the hammer...
  3. The DG3804B is a very good and reliable GMT movement that is not converted or modified, but designed to be a GMT movement from it's start. RolexAddict uses that movement in his custom 1675 builds. I have used both the DG and the ETA movements in my 6542 builds. Once completed, there is no discernible difference. You can further modify the ETA 2846 to make it work as the old gen movement did, no date quickset, no hacking, no adjustable GMT hand. But to me that makes the watch just a pain in the 6, and those non-functions are not going to fool anyone. The beauty of the DG3804B is that at around 5 years when both movements would need servicing, the ETA will cost somewhere around $200. To service the DG3804B place the movement on the bench, hit it with a hammer, and replace the movement with a brand new one for about $25.
  4. No need to congratulate me. The thread began as a "shite oh" and regressed with the 'are we there yet' crowd. That's odd. You seem to miss some of the words. Please how me where I addressed your values or said you threatened anyone.
  5. Yes, I am. And I certainly meant the term I used, "heroic" as a jab. Your post reads to me as using a faux heroic stand to cover your complaint. I didn't mention your values, nor did I accuse you of threatening anyone. Reading, evidently much like patience, is a skill. In my opinion this thread was NOT needed, as I said. With few exceptions, the vast majority of complainers in this thread are 'newbies'. We have a member here who can repair watches. Technically I suppose it is a business, he shouldn't repair a watch for free. But he doesn't have a storefront or a neon sign on Main street. He is a MEMBER here, a hobbyist as we are, and those of us who've been around a while seem to know this, while the newbies whine about 'are we there yet', and a guy with 4 lousy replies here, ALL complaining in this thread, makes threats and harasses with phone calls to Mike's house. Our hobby is "replica" watches. In the real world that means 'fake' or 'knockoff', it is illegal in most countries, most are shipped by sneaking them out of a country, or in or both, so getting the watchsmith on Main street with the neon sign to fix one is near impossible. So we ask our fellow members to repair and mod our watches for us. Sure, we pay for it, but nowhere close to what a watchsmith would charge for the same work. Does that mean that our fellow member is now the local Walmart? 'I want it now', 'I want my hand held', I want-I want-I want!!! Does it give anyone the right to even have the idea that any of our members is in some proper business with staff and little claim tags for your repair? Does it give ANYONE the right to THREATEN a fellow RWG member? No. This thread is 'premature evaluation'. Odds are that the 'are we there yet' crowd in this thread have posts elsewhere asking the membership how long it takes for Andrew to ship, or how long will my order be in customs. I've never made a 'newbie' bashing post, but this thread brought it out. Looks like Dave was right.
  6. Didn't read the thread? Someone else did, on the first page, and as I said earlier, I only come here occasionally, staying mostly in the Rolex area. Maybe if those who make threats first used the 'search' tool, looked and read before threatening and making unnecessary threads, this thread could have not existed. No, I didn't tell everyone how wrong they are. Just a few. Don't you think it's best to comment on all that is said, after it was said, at the end?
  7. Mike made two threads, one explaining his being ill, and the 2nd explaining a death in his family. Any heroic support to fend off the vultures should have been added to Mike's own threads. Then all the explanations are in one place. Then everyone knows a fellow member has a personal problem. Then everyone knows that a fellow member lost a loved one. Then everyone knows their precious "babies" were safe and sound. All this thread has done is to show that some of our members value their "babies" more than a fellow member's health or well being, and that some of our members like to threaten other members. We already knew what lawyers are, so that wasn't needed either. In my opinion, this thread is not necessary, nor warranted.
  8. +1,000,000 This entire thread makes no sense. I had no watches with mike, and only occasionally read in 'General Discussion' area - rarely leaving the Rolex area - and yet I still saw and read the two threads Mike made, the first when he was sick, and second when he had a death in the family. Common sense would tell anyone there would be delays. This thread is not necessary to inform the members, the two threads Mike made were necessary, and done. To make threats after waiting a whole week?? To try and intimidate a fellow RWG member with questionable legalese?? I'd call that premature evaluation.
  9. You made threats? You left threatening and harassing phone messages at the guy's home? Add in the inconsistencies in this post and the others, and the picture becomes quite clear to me.
  10. Well done! My 16710 was done using BK's tutorial , and I love that watch!
  11. Otto Frei http://www.ofrei.com/page474.html
  12. I like a good debate, and this is one. We can certainly agree to disagree! Rolexman, I understand and appreciate what you are saying, but it is from the heart of someone who obviously really cares. That, unfortunately, is not 'reality'. I think it is all about the watch, and certainly the emblem, which is why we spend what we do here to get that emblem. So, let me ask, would you take counterfeit/forgery Euros to service my watch?
  13. But the "label" is the point. Labeling any product other than what it really is makes it a fake. That is an attempt to make it a silk purse. But the body and the motor are still a genuine 1964 Mustang. And the vehicle's worth is far less than an all original/restored, numbers matching car. There are companies that make Corvette bodies from the `50s and `60s that you can put on a newer Corvette frame. It is actually better than the original, but it is still not a genuine `50s Corvette. I do agree, as I said, the watchmaker is passing up making money.
  14. When all is said and done, the bottom line is that our reps are just that, replicas. Nothing more. They are copies, fakes, knockoffs, not the real thing. You can spend $3000 using mostly genuine parts, build a franken, and it still is not a genuine 'Rolex'. The only place you can sell one is to someone who wants a replica. And only a very few of us would pay $1000 or more for a replica. So, they're not snobs, they are realists. That said, I'm not goofy enough to pay $6,000 or more for a watch that I can buy/build/mod for under $500 that the 'experts' can't tell is a replica. This is where it comes in for our community. Everyone here 'fits' from the $100 'noobmariner' to the several $thousand 'franken'. Each of us chooses what is 'best' for ourself. And our community even has expert watchmakers who will service our watches with no issue, and likely better than the local guy who doesn't have a clue what we just handed him. With an ETA or other Swiss movement the local guy passes up business, and making money. That's up to him. With a 21j movement it's likely more trouble for him than it is worth. For under $25 you can remove the movement, hit it with a hammer, and install a new movement with limited skills and tools and all the help ever needed from members here. After all, the worst that can happen is you screw it up, and if it needed service, it was screwed up already. The first time is scary, the 5th time is fun, the 50th time is just a pain in the 6. We are special people here who make a silk purse from a cow's ear, and do it quite well. We learn and do, and have those who can do for us if needed. We have more options than anyone. We have made the best of watch ownership right here.
  15. I agree, the 5.3mm crown is a pain in the...fingers.
  16. I did the BK suggested build. Not franken, but really turned out great. http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/144657-making-a-gen-style-16710-case-out-of-a-16570-case-and-tw-bezel-assembly/?pid=1089607#entry1089607
  17. Well done! I used an ETA 2893-2 in my first build and later changed it to a modded ETA 2846. The ETA 2893-2 is a really nice movement.
  18. Have a good trip, and I hope to see your genuine 6542 pics when you get back!
  19. Thank you. We aim to please! Looking forward to seeing the pics of your genuine 6542!
  20. Yeah, I think my Grandfather told me about that rock group!
