  1. I think it's simply a matter of honesty, rather than definitions. You presented your watch and described it accurately and honestly. Some refuse to accept that, and definitions won't change it. For some people being insulting or foul-mouthed or smart-assed punk is cute. It has nothing to do with the emotion of the issue.
  2. What is wrong with you? His post wasn't "innocent" in any way. I had just agreed to disagree with TeeJay in a difference of opinion. Nothing nasty nor flaming nor insulting. And some kid needs to be cute? And you need to be cute with him? He didn't direct it at the "community", he made a dig at me. He got the reaction he deserved.
  3. Otto Frei out of California has them at $149.95 http://www.ofrei.com/page_183.html Jules Borel out of Kansas City is at $162.95. http://www.julesborel.com/ With these suppliers you would know you get a genuine Swiss ETA and get a warranty.
  4. We'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think your counterfeit money example applies to the entire watch.
  5. I simply returned the favor.
  6. Oh, I get it just fine. You fail to comprehend much at all. But then, all this is just for your entertainment purposes anyway, and I couldn't care less what you think at all. You've always been a simple minded foul-mouthed punk anyway. You and your buddies were bored on your site so you came here to stir up stuff. What new? I'll still be here when you leave. Oh, and I'm certainly not your "mate". I wouldn't even consider it.
  7. I think comparing cars and watches is a good way to look at it. Years ago while in high school a friend bought a `67 Mustang. Within hours he changed the Ford 4bbl carb to a Holley double pumper. Of course the warranty was void, but it was never going back to Ford anyway. The thing is, it was still a genuine Mustang. Still a genuine Ford. It was never a "fake ass" at all. Today you can buy all the parts, body, interior, everything, to build a 1960s Corvette on a Chevy S10 pickup truck frame. Is it s genuine Corvette? Even using some genuine Corvette parts is it a real Corvette? Nope. It is just as my 6542 is, a replica. But if you buy a genuine 1960 Corvette frame, buy a genuine 1960 Corvette motor, interior and the rest, it is a genuine 1960 Corvette. And it is worth top dollar as a restored car. If the motor numbers do not match the original, but is still a Chevy engine, it is worth less but it is still a genuine 1960 Corvette, not a "fake ass" and worth only slightly less than the numbers matching car. freddy's watch is not a "fake ass" either. It is a genuine Rolex 6542 with a replacement insert and repainted dial. Just as stated from the start.
  8. Well, that's pretty much what we said all along.
  9. I checked it out and that is correct, a custom dialed watch would be refused service from Rolex. Nonetheless, the DateJust is still a genuine DateJust but with a custom dial. If they are not still genuine, then there are whole bunch of watches being sold as genuine when they are not. Of course it's all moot, as freddy would not want a service from Rolex. The point I made is that freddy's watch is a genuine Rolex, as is the DateJust, but with a replacement insert and repainted dial.
  10. So, your smart-assed answer aside, you're saying that Rolex will service the DateJust that was altered with a custom dial?
  11. I don't think any 6542 watches are in warranty. Would the Rolex factory service the DateJust with the custom dial?
  12. No, they wouldn't, and no one here said any different from the start about freddy's watch. freddy's watch is a genuine Rolex 6542. It NOT a genuine Rolex White Dial Pan Am.
  13. OK, lets say the worst, it is a custom dial repainted by someone other than Rolex Authorized, (though freddy's was done by a Rolex authorized dial refinisher) and the DateJust voids the warranty. Does that make the watch a "fake ass Rolex"??
  14. Then it would be a 'custom' dial. right?
  15. I don't know the definition of a "service dial". This dial is a genuine dial that was refinished by the Rolex authorized service dial guy. Aren't service dials refinished original dials that needed to be replaced? And what of the DateJust example I asked? If someone has a genuine DateJust and sees a service dial they like, say it's a slate dial, or a dial with diamond markers or any of the custom dials that are on the market, and has it installed on his DateJust, is the DateJust now a "fake ass watch"? Of course not. It's still a genuine DateJust with a custom dial.
  16. Yes, I believe he is. A vote? What makes the voters you suggest qualified to know? I'd think that if you asked Rolex, any authorized dealers, any watchmakers or any informed collectors if this watch that is all genuine with a service dial and replacement insert is a genuine Rolex, we'd get a more accurate answer.
  17. Your watch is a genuine Rolex 6542 with a service or custom dial and replacement insert.
  18. I don't think so.
  19. Only the uninformed or ignorant gen owners would think that. To the Rolex factory, authorized dealers, watchmakers, informed collectors and by the law the watch is a genuine Rolex 6542 with a service dial and replacement insert.
  20. I misspoke. The insert is an aftermarket replacement for the Rolex 6542. Rolex no longer makes that insert.
  21. Sure it does. It is exactly the same as any Rolex replacement dial when it's done by a Rolex authorized person. It is NOT a genuine white dial 6542 Pan Am watch, and no one ever said it was. The genuine caseback tells that, it isn't engraved with a Pan Am logo.
  22. We will disagree, Andy. It is a genuine dial that was refinished by the Rolex factory authorized person. It is no more "fake" than any other dial that has been refinished by Rolex.
  23. If refinished by THE factory authorized person Rolex commissioned to refinish dials, then it cannot, in any way, be a "fake". It is a factory authorized replacement dial. Rolex themselves installed replacement dials and inserts in 6542s back in the 1950s, and those watches are considered genuine by the Rolex factory, Authorized dealers, watchmakers and all the fan clubs. The only part of your watch that is not factory authorized is the replica insert, which is not "fake" either. It is a replacement authorized by Law. And besides, I like the exclusivity of having made the only non-authorized Rolex part of your watch! It's how I roll...
