  1. Hello boys!

Wow...TC sounds like the way to go ...I emailed him two weeks ago and am still waiting for a response. No more modding for me though...my lamps are not as good as they used to be...even with the best of lopes and floodlights I can't see [censored]!

Remember that clown "fliplockbuckle" and all his stupid questions? Lots of guys thought he was doing his crap on purpose...Lots of guys were actually tasking the time to answer his insane queries... What ever happened to that guy from Canada...I can't remember his name but his avatar was a Wright Bros flyer...if my memory serves me correctly...he was a true artist and craftsman...he also did lots of tutorials...a real wizard with movements...I remember I needed screws for a gen Rolex winding bridge...he pm'd me and asked for my address and sent them to me...that's real class.

    You mean The Zigmeister?

Yeah he retired from the Board and Ubiq isn't active these days either.

Welcome back btw, good to see some old timers posting in this thread!

  2. Believe the sellers just refund the buyer to avoid getting their PayPal account frozen.

If you think about it though ken, the few bad eggs is guaranteed to happen in every market / industry so refunding them is probably the smartest thing to do than get shut down like this? Sure you lost some money but in the longer run, you will cover those losses

  3. This will be a work in progress where I will continue to update as I gather more parts and build.

To give everyone a background, and especially the old timers like myself (been here effectively since the inception of this board) after moving over from the original RWG before that went under, there was an element of surprise and fun trying to build the perfect Submariner. The 16610 model has been around for the longest time, a timeless classic in many people's eyes, simple yet beautiful. Too bad I was drawn to Omegas back when I first started - anyway, I've moved over to the Rolex side now. However, nowadays, the TC submariner has made many people's lives easier - minimal modifications, genuine parts fit the case and easily the best out of the box 16610.

Now onto my goal - TC Sub means a price tag was $545 + shipping ($35 for me based in Australia) which seems a bit steep for me - that's $580 for the watch. So as mission, I wanted to explore the possibility of building a "budget" version and seeing if the quality stacks up.

    Here's the comparison:

    Option 1)

This is a combination of sourcing random parts and using a combination of TC parts

    Option 2)

Buy TC parts separately and costs cut in areas that you can

    Option 3)

    Buy the TC Sub outright

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for the math, the below includes shipping and is in USD.

Its obvious that Option 2 makes no sense if you are sourcing all of the parts separately but if you have 1/3 of the parts lying around through trade or through sourcing from various members, there is potential.

Anyway, Option 1 is what I'm trying to achieve so thanks to various member, I have collected all of the parts under Option 1. Also to support my case for taking this approach, I also have spare 2892 movements so I don't actually need the 2824 movement. This puts me at $213 for the total build but of course for like for like basis, I have included it.

I will updated this with photos and comparison as I have the BK submariner (well sold it but have photos of it) as well as a genuine 16610 to help.

Appreciate any thoughts and opinions in the meantime.

  4. A lot going on lately guys we have what three bans in the last week that's a bundle for us. Looking at other boards this is all over and on the rise so remember buy the seller not the watch and do not sell to just anyone either. We are not as busy as other boards for the most part and most of us know each other or at least by reputation so be careful stepping outside of that very careful. IMHO we have the best feedback system so use it and do your research guy says he's active RG, RWI, RWG Bz go looking for him read his posts, topics. Lack of due diligence will get you every time.

PS everyone who is selling /buying should be a member on all above to vet people, period.

    this is well said, Mike.

The guy who tried to scam multiple members for this TC 16610 gave me the sh1ts again.

Thanks for the admin team for looking out for us day in and day out!

Right now, there is one maker that stands out from the rest. That is TC Submariner. There is a section in the reputable dealer area that has this contact details.

    TC Sub:

    The pros:

    • It is genuine specification so genuine rolex submariner parts will fit (i.e., the external parts like insert, crown, crystal)
    • It is pretty much plug and play and it is the best submariner out of the box at the moment
    • TC puts the watch together for you personally so QC is there also

    The cons:

    • Expensive - at around $550 plus shipping, it isn't a cheap replica but the quality and the fact that is so close to the genuine piece makes it special
    • TC can be slow at responding. He is inundated with orders so can be slower in turnaround replies and the purchase to receiving can take up to 5-6 weeks as he needs to put it together for you

The MBW (or variants of it):

    • More or less a prequel to the TC. It also accept genuine parts (the original man behind this was BK - believe he still has a section in the sellers area) but believe he doesn't sell anymore. However, you can find these from members selling them from time to time. Generally cheaper than the TC but may be around the same price given most members have upgraded it with gen parts at some stage.

    The noobmariner:

    • One of the old school versions that can still be found from time to time from member selling them. They were cheap (around $120 a pop), doesn't accept genuine parts but for what it was worth, still great quality and a great daily beater. The serial starts with a "F"

    The TW version:

    • Recently got my hands on one of these. Similar to noobmariner but from different maker. Doesn't really accept genuine parts but a decent daily beater too. Serial starts with "D"

After these above 4, there are still dealers selling the 16610 classic but many have flaws. Personally, I have seen the Trusty Watch version in the flesh and its not great. Aside from the decent pearl, the wok effect is strong and the doesn't accept genuine parts. I havent bought others but would avoid the cheaper dealers as their stocks are not great either.

    Hope this helps.
