  1. I wonder if this recession/depression will have a profound impact on the US psyche.

One in 12 people are now out of work and the number is rising. Massive foreclosures are leading to tent cities sprouting up. Soup kitchens are being stretched. Businesses are failing daily and people are being let go in all industries.

The US provides a very narrow safety net for the unemployed and it doesn't last a long time. There is no adequate health care coverage for those that are in this huge financial dificulty.

In the states recently I was watching the tales of poor people on the news. People were getting fired for being 30 minutes late for work or for drinking soda on the job. These people were fired so avoid paying any compensation. Gross missconduct means no redundancy payout. Being fired also means no assistance from the state.

True capitalism is very harsh. It is impossible for everyone to be rich. You can't have a nation of millionaires (ignoring inflation) someone has to peel the potatoes and clean the toilets. Pretending that everyone can get ahead if they just work hard is bull. Only come can. America and Europe has imported crap purchased on credit for the last decade. Now this is drying up the natural order of capitalism is returning.

Do you think Americans will reach out to those in their own country who are in need through no fault of their own? I think they'll have to. How the'll sell the message without it being called communism/socialism/marxism I don't know, but I can't see the richest nation on earth being so dispassionate they'd let this pain continue without intervention.

  2. Be warned - that is a problem with the gen too - and even a problem with the gen MMD regular version on bracelet like mine. You have to do some no-perm Loctite on UN's. There was a guy on TZ who had a gen MMD special edition in WG fly off his wrist while jogging and land on concrete. Cost him five grand to get it fixed and completely restored. One of those little brand quirks. It is actually because the machining is so good and the threads are so perfect the screws can move. Anyway, be careful with UN bracelet screws - rep or gen...

    Is this true?

I have a UN on my shortlist for my next gen. Having to pay $$$$ to fix something without UN helping is pretty sickening. Worse still, if it flies of my wrist when paddling at sea I've lost it.

This info is enough to put me off completely.

  3. Also living in Scandinavia, but I would like to change this a bit (only my opinion)

    1. Rolex

    2. Omega

    3. Breitling

    3. TAG Heuer

    5. Longiness

When I talk watches to my family and friends , most of them are well aware of the Breitlings. (therefore TAG & Bretilings share nr.3 )

Longiness is on 5th place just becuase It seems like every two watch stores sell these where I live.. but maybe I

  4. Attorney...

Heh, If we want to get legal then in the UK the sales of good act would trump all. Even for fakes.

Pay by credit card and charge back if you get ripped off. But, since I'm fairly sure to get bad service by someone offering those terms, I'd keep my wallet in my pocket and buy elsewhere.

  5. Would anyone here buy a product or service from someone with that disclaimer?

There's no way I would. How are you do know that your DOA rep wasn't sent out dead? The guy is saying I can (drop) ship out anything to you and it's all your responsibility.

Trust is a two way street. The dealer gets the cash and I get a watch. If I don't get a watch then the dealer should help me solve the problem. The solution may be spares or a replacement, but a comprimise should be made.

This is a rip-off's charter and there's no way I'd pay money to a 'collector' under those terms. I am not vaive about the rep world, but there are dealers who will look after you so why risk with those with these types of disclaimers.

  6. Beautiful watch my friend. I've had an eye on the stainless version and tried it on a couple of times too at the local AD. The only reason I didn't get it was the fact that I already have a Maurice Lacroix and I want to try a few other brands.

I would definitely send it to ML to service and regulate it. They'd probably love to see the work done on it too :)

Enjoy it and wear it in good health.

  7. I'm heading to Vegas in a few weeks on a conference and I wondered if any forum members could point me in the direction of a nice place or two to look at watches?

I've been before, but mostly ate, drank and played on the tables. This time I fancy widening my horizons so any other recommendations on how to spend the evening would be great.
