  1. some general answers to you post

a solid case rep will usually be a harder tell than a open case back, that is because the movement is one of the hardest items of a watch to rep correct, with a closed case back you cover the movement so it doesnt have to be perfect

usually most good reps will have the correct case back for the version it is, so you dont have to worry that much about if the back is correct

you will have to study the rep forums more to get a better idea which version or dealers version you feel are best, this is because all reps have some flaws but not ll the same ones, so you have to figure which ones are more important to you. what you can live with and with out

as far as value, the price curve starts getting pretty steep as you get closer and closer to a gen. i would think you will be ahead if you buy a pam that has the obvious tells fixed buy the dealer/seller from the start, rather than buying a less expensive version and then having it modded buy someone later. tells that most want fixed are the recessed cannon pin, poor fitting CG lever pin, poor lum and cheap looking straps.

plan on buying a quality gen strap or quality aftermarket strap.

tells like case shape, dial design, hands, crystal and movement are more up to personal tastes and start to cost more money to fix

hang in there keep going over old posts, look at gen sites, ask more questions. dont be in a hurry to buy, and even if you do all your home work you will probably make some changes after your purchases since you will learn from what you buy also.

    hope that helps

  2. i am still puzzled by this one

i think the watch was announced in 2001 but not released untill 2004. i think there was a CG style change during that time

so if this is correct what CG would be on the watch (reffering say to the 111ef CG vs the 111gh up CG)

    thanks

Should the arktos pam 92 have the flat or curved top CG?

    Thanks

  3. not sure what watch you are referring to

there is the deep sea sea dweller

and some refer to "super" sea dweller reps but i dont think they are ceramic

there is one fantasy ceramic sub that is a possible 2010 gen model to come

you might want to rethink the question, dont feel bad, i was and am still pretty confused by all the close sounding names

I'm looking for super sea dweller ceramic that looks the "best" cosmetically out of the box. I don't have much modding skills (actually none) and I don't mind if it's an asian movement since I don't think I'll find a watchmaker who'll work on reps around me anyway so a Swiss would be over kill for me.

A reliable Asian movement with the "best" cosmetically out of the box is what I'm looking for. I don't feel like spending $400 at this time...

  4. for sure you can get any color strap you want, hundreds of choices, i found on the hefty 187, thicker straps worked and looked better

as for metal i defer to others, you probably are looking for a 26 mm pam style bracelet right?

does anyone know if a metal and a brown strap can be obtained for this model of rep???

    thanks so much.

  5. savage so there is hope for a nice rep

    thanks

If you do a google search for "panerai travel clock replica", dozens of the cheesy scam sites are selling a rep (with gen photos) for around $245. This means that there probably IS a cheap rep of this clock out there, only a matter of time before it shows up at one of the trusted shops with some legit photos.

Something for our friends in China to look out for.

  6. regarding watch weight, i think that is just another reason offered by george as to why he chose the 2678-2 movement, allowed him to use a brass ring to increase weight. i think he wants a 135 gram sub and he was 8 grams light in previous versions

his new V2 has a new bracelet also (#93250) that now has hollow mid links that made it even lighter. thanks to the new V2 brass ring the watch is now at his target weight of 135 grams

i dug this out of his wm9 forum, it is second hand from a post, but i got the impression george was happy to finally be at the correct weight

do think it is interesting that he is paying attention to this, weather or not you can tell by holding one or the other if the weight is 8 grams off, i dont know

but the more attention to detail the better i say
