  1. Not sure what you mean "not even the orange second hand tip?" My gen has an orange second hand tip. However, on second look, I noticed that the rep has fatter hour markers than my gen.
  2. Holding my Gen PO 42 up to the screen, I can't see any differences at all. Nice watch!
  3. Very nice! I have a 2010 genuine PO, and holding it up to the screen, can see no difference. The engraving on the clasp looks more subtle on my gen, but that could just be the photography.
  4. I bought a gen Planet Ocean earlier this year, with the intention to buy the 45mm. The 45 looked ridiculous on my wrist, and realizing that big watches are a fad that will eventually pass...I went for the 42 with orange 12, 6 and 9. I bought it in person at an AD. While I did pay just under 4k, that is actually a very good price in Canada, and was almost $1000 below retail.
  5. I have a gen Movado that I wore once in the rain, under a suit, and this same thing happened. Corroded the hands and marked part of the dial. A $1000 watch, and now it looks like a bad rep
  6. I have a 'vintage-vintage' Datejust rep! Not only a vintage model but I bought it 21 years ago. Not a bad watch either!
  7. If you can get the Noob (or any rep) to be waterproof, that is great. I have a gen Movado that I paid almost $1000 for. I wore it in the rain one day (4 months out of warranty) and the next day the crystal was fogged. I dried it out by sealing it in a Tupperware with silica gel, but the damage had been done. The face has different sheen on one side and the hands had crusty corrosion. Funny thing, the watchmaker vacuum-tested it and said it was fine, and that he could replace the face & hands for $400. Ha! Now I have a less than perfect gen watch. Should have bought a rep and taken the time to have it waterproofed
  8. What a gorgeous watch! LOL on the 'wrist of a 9 year old girl' comment! That looks like a 50mm watch!
  9. Partial thread hijack..... Google the Debaufre and Steinhart watches, also shipped directly from Switzerland. They make Sub, GMT and IWC "homage" watches as well as some really awesome designs of their own. 100% Swiss Made, 300m depth rating. The really cool thing is that they make their subs in 39mm, 42mm and 44mm sizes. Debaufre has a model called the Triton which has a 2000 meter depth rating! That's in the same league as a DSSD, but it's $850. Anyway, just some additional info on watches that are in that "in-between" world....between reps and gens
  10. Sadly, I don't have a case opener.... :-(
  11. Bought this rep from a friend in 1989 - despite some fatal flaws, it has run perfectly for 21 years without ever having been serviced. I've never opened the case, so would anyone hazard a guess as to what movement might be under the hood? The date flips over at exactly midnight and has the quickset feature (pull crown out to first click). I have bashed it around, swam with it, left it unworn for a year at a time, and she still works. Not a bad buy for $20.00 in '89, hey?
  12. I've been stuck on this site since finding it about a week ago...what a resource! I look forward to participating. Mike
