  1. Back on topic (and missing my cat Mimi who was a great companion and friend for 17 years), I split my RWG time between:

    * A sofa in the living room (where I am now) while using a Toshiba laptop.

    * In my home office (where I use my Dell desktop), or

    * In my workplace office or a company conference room (again on the Toshiba).

We love our laptop computers and Web-browsing phones, but they created a situation where our work-selves and personal-sleves became much more closely intertwined. So I check RWG when I first get into the office in the a.m., and I check my office e-mail before turning in at the end of the day, and even when I am on "vacation." Perverse, yes?

  2. A lot of money from Hollywood stars to captains of industry has moved into Montana over the last five to ten years. This company is definitely going after the Ralph Lauren-Polo type of crowd that wants to be rustic as well as fashionable. I liked one of the descriptions for a watch that would be appropriate for everything from a rodeo to the opera.

Next time I am in Montana I might make a side-trip to visit them.

  3. Right now, I'm in bed with a cat purring at my elbow. Life is good.

    WOW... same here!

Is there something you guys want to tell us about? :p

On second thought, perhaps we don't want to know.:lol:

Enjoy your beautiful cats. Until we replace my cat who passed away last year, we settle for daily visits from our neighbor's cats.

  4. I control the price of reps.....by what I am willing -- or unwilling -- to pay.

To me this hobby is in large part about discovering bargains, high quality replicas at good or great prices. High quality reps at high prices don't interest me. If they did, I would be shopping for gens at similar price levels. That was actually what I was looking for when I stumbled into the rep culture.

If the price of the HBB came down to the $300 neighborhood and the quality was proven better than it is today, then it might possibly make my list.

  5. Font size adjusted

Thanks very much. Even that small adjustment really is better. Please take a look at the color samples I added as well. The current blue does not stand out as well, in my opinion.

By the way, I really appreciated your status reports during the upgrade. The professional and friendly way you administer the board is one of the key features that make this board great. We all owe you a huge debt of gratitude.

  6. I think the new skin is great. It reminds me of some green pillows my wife made. I am very tired of blue skins. Any time I set up a new computer one of the first things I do is change the color scheme.

The text font needs tweaking, though. I find message body text harder to read. Perhaps I can tweak this on my end. Otherwise I hope you can make some simple administrative changes to improve message font readability.

As an experiment, here is the same text in black:

    And now in red:

  7. We have google ads at the top of each page, which helps support the forum. I assume part of the agreement is to gather demographic information about the visitors so that the appropriate ads show up.

Right now I'm looking at a four-part banner listing Replica Watches, Breitling Watches, Swiss made watches, and Logo Watches Fast & Easy. The connection there is easy enough to figure out. But earlier (and during other visits) I noticed Lexus ads, perhaps in part due to the fact that recently I've been visiting edmunds.com, the auto magazines, and the web sites for Infiniti and Toyota. Big Brother is always watching.

What ad banners appear at the top of the page when you surf rwg.cc?

  8. If I had that kind of money the LAST thing I'd do would be to buy cars. Seriously, how badly do I want people to admire me because of what I drive? That means nothing. It's the content of your character, not your bank account, that matters.

Reminds me of when I used to live in one of Chicago's wealthier suburbs. I would see this guy periodically driving a nifty current year Corvette. His license plate was GELD ! A sibling of our friend Jetmid, perhaps?

  9. If you haven't made the purchase before reading this, check out the price information at edmunds.com.

Also, if you belong to Costco or similar groups (I think AAA does this also), you can use their pricing service to see if they come up with a better price.

Yesterday I went to a dealer to test drive a Camry Hybrid. It's the first time I've driven a hybrid. Nice car. But the salesman noted that there is very little haggle room on hybrids these days, but they are quite willing to negotiate on the sticker price of SUVs. So high gas prices AND the fact that 2008 models are just around the corner should give you some decent leverage.

  10. I just read the headline that Michael Rasmussen has been kicked off his team and out of the Tour de France.

It's really sad for the rest of the riders and for the sport of cycling that this year's tour has become a perverse farce.

    Unbelievable.

  11. My understanding is that "good" in this context is a relative term.

First, I don't think the Asian movement is even a single movement but could be one of many generics, some of higher quality manufacture than others. With ETA, on the other hand, you are purchasing based on a presumed pedigree or source of origin.

Then there is the question of watch assembly and proper lubrication. Many members have provided testimony of years of reliable service from Asian movements, so the chances that you will receive a decent watch are pretty good.

And finally, how long a watch lasts will also depend on how well it is maintained. And that is where you come in. Take good care of an Asian movement and it can last you "forever." Mistreat or fail to maintain an ETA and you may eventually have a lovely looking paperweight.

Having said all that, there have been times when I paid extra to get an ETA movement even though there was a well-reviewed version of the same watch with an Asian movement. And at other times I decided to save my cash and go Asian, even if there were other differences in quality besides the movement (such as inferior or no AR). Every person has to make their own judgement calls.

    Cheers.

  12. I nominate Ola for honorary VIP membership. All in favor, say Aye. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

As for the Dumont, it looks very, very nice. I tried a gen on a few years ago and loved it. A nice size and a distinctive dress watch option.

How good is the strap? The one in the pictures looks similar, but not quite as nice as the gen strap, which was buttery rich.

  13. Done. I kept waiting and waiting for the response e-mail, and at first decided that even admins have to eat and sleep.

Then I decided to check my junk mail folder.... and there the response auto-mailer was sitting in wait.

Keep up the fantastic work, Herr Admin.

  14. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I know that this model was promoted as being waterproof, but I wonder if activities such as wearing it in a hot shower contributed to your problem? Are there any signs of condensation/moisture on the inside of the crystal?

More likely something is loose or out of alignment based on erratic movement that your girlfriend noticed. Unfortunately there is probably no way of knowing for certain whether this is the case, or whether something more substantial broke within the watch, without taking it to a watchsmith (I assume that you, like me, do not have the skills to do this yourself, otherwise you would have done so already). When you ask whether a "simple watchmaker" can diagnose and fix the problem, I think the answer depends on what you mean by a simple watchmaker. Any watch repair person with a reasonable amount of mechanical watch experience ought to be able to diagnose and probably even fix your problem. Of course you need to take into cosnideration the usual caveats about taking your rep to an AD or watch repair person who frowns on reps.

Above all, good luck and let us know how it turns out.
