Hi all, new here, I normally resdie over in the Rolex area, however my better half treated me to a V5 42mm PO for Christmas.....unfortunately there are a couple of problems with it the first is the crown won't screw down, I'm pretty sure that this is the due to knackered threads, the second is it doesn't work, so I've ordered a new crown and tube and a new movement. While I'm waiting for these to arrive I figured I may as well get on with removing the old tube So here goes! BTW this is not meant to be a tutorial, just a record of what I did and where I went wrong, or, fingers crossed...right! The offending crown! First job was to get the movement out of the case, this means of course undoing the back and then undoing the movement screws, of which one seems to have totally disappeared! Oh well, one less to undo! Once they were undone it was time to remove the old crown and stem...I was far too nervous during this to take pictures!! So worried I was gonna screw this part up! Luckily, all went well and the crown and stem came out ok Next up the movement and retaining ring were removed and finally I could get a proper look at the job in hand. Now it looks to me like the rep tube may well be screwed in, judging by the thread I can see in the case, so I'll try and unscrew it first. I tapped the case up just in case I slipped, be a shame to damage my lovely PO before I've even worn it!! Yep sure enough it unscrews, which is a nice surprise, I think. All the reading I'd done before I started this seemed to suggest the rep tube would be a push fit. This one I just grabbed with pliers and gently unscrewed And hey presto, without drama or damage, it was out! Here is the old, slightly squished tube! So all that was left to do was clean up the case threads and now sit by the front door and wait for the postman!!

Dam looks like I either have the wrong dial or the wrong case then! Here is the offending watch!

Just out of interest, what model is that case back actually from?

Cool, so my Silix gilt Sub could be correct in having an HEV?

......did the Sub ever have an HEV?

Got a bit of spare time this evening so I figured I'd spend it in the dark cupboard under the stairs with my newly completed 6200 and a very narrow beamed torch!

Well today was time for stage two of my 6200 training mod! All went ok ish, pretty pleased with the result. Here's a quick and dirty of it as it now stands. I'll do a few better shots later in the week when I get a chance

I forgot to say...Freddy that bezel look beautiful, how did you age it, out of interest?

Cheers for that Freddy, I'm not sure if any other crystal will fit the Silix case, or even how to check! Guess I need to add "new crystal" to my growing list of mods to do! I've also noticed that gen 6200s don't have the extra two lines of text that mine does, I don't suppose anyone know if it's possible to remove them, maybe with thinners or something?

Thanks Freddy, yep some dial and hand ageing is on the horizon, as soon as I pluck up the courage! I've managed to remove the lume from the metal holder in the bezel now, do I need to remove this too?

Yeah, I'm a bit nervous about that, not to sure where to start with the dial and hands, I've looked at loads of threads about ageing, just not sure what to try first or what to do when it goes wrong!!

Took delivery of a Silix cheapie 6200 a couple of days ago. The intention is to use it as a base to learn some modding techniques. So far I've softened the case and had a go at bleaching the insert. Not too bad for a first attempt? Oh dear, sorry no pic, I'll try again!

Oh dear, that doesn't seem to have worked! There should be a pic of my SSD! Leave it with me I'll see if I can battle technology and win! Fingers crossed this works... Cool, it worked!

I bought this SSD ages ago, wore it for a while and the gave it to a good mate. I've subsequently got it back from him and it's not left my wrist since! Can't believe I ever gave it away! It has however opened a huge can of worms....the sort of can that now finds me searching this excellent forum for all sorts of vintage builds and modding advice! I have a horrid feeling this is going to become a very time consuming hobby!! Oh....and I hope you guys are ready for an endless stream of newbie questions! Anyway here is the offending SSD looking nicely worn in now and ageing gracefully IMHO
